Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale a stunning and unique 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Speedster.
By the mid to late 1980s Porsche realised that other prestige car manufacturers were doing very well selling limited edition and special versions of their cars. Porsches answer was to bring back the iconic Speedster. Two prototypes were built for internal review and soon after the green light was given to show the car at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show. The public reaction was extremely positive and deposits came flooding in. Twelve months later, at the 1988 Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche introduced the production version of the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Speedster.
Speedster production ran from January to September of 1989 and in total 2,104 examples were produced. Like the original Speedster, Porsches target market was the USA and as a result only 139 right hand drive examples were built. Notably, the majority of the cars built were Turbo body look (Option 491 Super Sport Equipment).
The car on offer is one of the rare factory right hand drive examples. This UK delivered car has the more desirable and more powerful 231 hp engine. It is presented today as it left the factory in 1989 with silver metallic paint (paint code S7), black soft top (V9), black leather interior (ATG), recoil bumpers (058), passenger sport seat electric height adjustment (383), driver sport seat electric height adjustment (387), deletion of front and rear Spoiler (470), super sport equipment (491), amplifier system (494) and luggage compartment trimmed in black velour carpet (975). The car is currently fitted with Porsche classic radio navigation system.
This car was delivered new on 1st August 1989 though Porsche dealer Chariots St Albans Ltd in St Albans, UK. Interestingly, the dealership was owned by Tom Walkinshaw of the TWR Group.
Over the next six years the car was used on a regular basis and by March 1995 the odometer had clocked 39,964 miles. During this time it was routinely serviced by the delivering dealer. Subsequently the car was used sparingly, travelling only 20,000 miles in the next 30 years. Importantly, it was always consistently serviced as confirmed by the service book.
In late 2017 the car was given to Porsche specialist Paul Stephens in Halstead, Essex, UK for a major refurbishment. The invoices on file note the mileage as 56,446 miles at that time.
Cosmetically, the car was stripped back to bare metal and repainted in its original colour, new window seals were installed and the stone guards were replaced.
Mechanically, the engine was cleaned and all ancillaries were removed and restored, all metal components in the engine bay were polished, a new exhaust system was fitted, corroded oil pipes were replaced, new shock absorbers were installed, the suspension was refurbished with new bushes, bearings etc, any parts which needed to be replated were replated, perished hoses and brake lines were replaced and all brake callipers were refurbished. Electrically, a new fuse box was installed.
The cars then owner decided to lower the ride height by 20mm, install a replacement chip giving the car more torque and install a Porsche classic radio navigation system.
In total some £46,000 was spent on the car and as you will see from the photos, the end result is simply STUNNING!
This Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Speedster was subsequently purchased by an Australian on 6th August 2020 and at that time it had 57,000 miles on the odometer. There is an import approval on file for the car dated 10th September 2020. The car subsequently arrived into Melbourne, Australia in November 2020.
The car was shortly thereafter registered in Victoria.
The car was beautifully presented, however, its then owner wanted to take it to the next level. In August 2021 it was taken to Cairns Classic Modern Porsche Services in Hallam, Victoria who refurbished the Fuchs wheels and installed a new antenna. They also removed the seats for the owner who had them refurbished.
The current owner acquired the car back in April 2022 but he has only used it occasionally. He has recently had a change of direction with his collection and therefore reluctantly decided to sell a few cars, including this Speedster.
We have a soft spot for the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 and havent had a Speedster for sale for some time. We think, given their rarity, they are a fantastic example of a collectible limited edition or special version sports car that is relatively affordable compared to its Italian rivals.
When this car arrived at our showroom our first reaction was . . . WOW! And how good does it look in silver! We of course had to park it next to our 1958 Porsche 356 A 1600 Super Speedster and the ancestry is plain to see. The shape of the windscreen is the elephant in the room, but the resemblance of the cars is uncanny.
A 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Speedster has an incredible presence and it is a car that looks amazing from every angle.
On this particular car, the condition of the paint is excellent. It has a strong depth of colour and a deep gloss finish. We think silver metallic is a great colour for any 911 but it is just stunning for a 911 Speedster! It brings out all the lines and contours as well as contrasts perfectly with the black interior and the black accents on the car. We struggled to find any paint imperfections, other than one very small scratch on both sides on the top of the body near the B pillar where the soft top cover comes down. There is also some light gravel rash on the bottom of the sill at the front of the rear wheel arches. The black rubber strips in and on top of the bumpers often discolour on 911s of this period but on this car they are in excellent condition.
The same can be said for the rest of the external trim, including the lights and lenses. They are all in excellent condition with no cracks evident. Even the reflective strip between the tail lights presents like new.
The wheels were refurbished just over four years ago, however, the car has hardly been driven since. As a result they are in excellent condition with no marks or evidence of any kerb rash. They are shod with Pirelli Cinturato P7 tyres size 205/55 VR15 at the front and 245/45 VR16 on the rear which are date stamped 1819 (week 19. 2019). All four tyres are in excellent condition.
Inside the cabin, the interior is in exceptional condition. With the top down on warm summers evening it is just THE place to be! The black upholstery presents beautifully, with the slightest wear evident on the drivers seat bolster and aging of the leather. The seats are comfortable and provide ample support. There are no rear seats in a 911 Carrera Speedster. It is strictly a two seater car and behind the seats youll find a small storage area. The dash and steering wheel are similarly well presented. All the instruments are clean and work the way they should. Two aftermarket USB charging ports have been installed on top of the centre console, but these are easy to remove should the cars new owner decide to do so. Yes, the car does have a soft top, which is of course for emergency purposes only. It is actually more functional than you may think and it is easily accessible from behind the seats under the fibreglass cover. It is generally in very good condition, though we did notice a small tear onthe left rear bottom corner.
Being a UK delivered car you would have every right to be concerned as to how it presents underneath. We are pleased to confirm that this car is as clean underneath as it is on top. The underside received as much attention if not more when all the work was done by Paul Stephens back in 2017. There is no doubt this car presents better than most Australian delivered cars we have seen.
This car presents beautifully and we are pleased to report that it drives every bit as good as it looks!
The car starts easily, even from cold and quickly settles into a smooth idle. Out on the open road this car is a real delight to drive. It is hard to believe that it is actually 36 years old. It is easy to drive and everything feels just right. The engine has plenty of power on tap and it responds to the slightest touch of the throttle and the G50 gearbox is smooth, easy to use and precise. We love the feel of this car through the direct and very responsive steering. The ride is slightly stiffer than usual courtesy of the lowered suspension, but it is not uncomfortable. The brakes easily pull the car up quickly and in a straight line when necessary.
Porsche 911s of this era are so easy to live with and so easy to drive it is no surprise there are still plenty of people out there who use them as a daily driver. Yet at the same time they are exhilarating and this 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Speedster is about as good as it gets from this era of Porsche.
At time of photographing, the odometer read 59,706 miles. The service book and MOT records on file confirm the mileage is genuine.
Accompanying the car is its original book set, tool kit, jack and unused space saver spare wheel.

Background
The Porsche story is a fascinating one and its roots go back to the 1930s when Professor Ferdinand Porsche was instrumental in the design of the first Volkswagen and also Auto Union race cars. By 1939 he had built three Porsche cars to compete in the 800-mile race from Berlin to Rome. Unfortunately, the race was cancelled due to the war and Porsche was forced to focus on supporting the German war effort, however, he had always wanted to build his own cars. In 1944 Porsche was forced to leave Stuttgart and he set up a small operation in Gmünd, Austria. Soon after the Porsche family and many of their engineers were captured and sent to jail. Ferdinand Porsches son. Ferdinand junior, or Ferry as he was known, was released six months later and he returned to Gmünd to rebuild the family company. Things moved quickly and Porsche was involved with cars again and in mid-1948 the first Porsche 356 was built. It is understood Porsche built some 50 aluminium bodied cars by hand in their small factory at Gmündbefore relocating back to Stuttgart, Germany. The rest they say is history as the 356 evolved into one of the most successful sports cars ever built. A hard act to follow indeed . . . but its replacement, the Porsche 911 went on to become a legend!
The evolution of the Porsche 911 is probably the greatest sports car story of all time. First introduced in 1963 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and then designated as a 901, the successor to the 356 took the world by storm. To avoid conflict with Peugeot, who claimed exclusive rights to car names with three digits having a zero in the middle, the car was renamed as 911. The first production 911 was built in 1964 and it was powered by an air cooled 1991cc 6-cylinder engine. The car evolved with increases in engine capacity to 2.2 litres, 2.4 litres, 2.7 litres, 3.0 litres and 3.3 litres. There were styling changes also, but one always recognised the car as a 911. Today the first series of 911s is recognised as the cars built from 1963 to 1989 and include the very popular Porsche 911 and 930 Turbo models. Of these the small bumper or pre impact bumper cars built up to 1973 are today regarded as the real classic 911, however, that comes at a price. In the last few years astute collectors and enthusiastshave seen great value in 1970s and 1980s model 911s.
The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 was introduced in 1983 as a successor to the 911SC. Interestingly, it was the first time the Carrera name had been used since 1977. Visually the new car was similar to its successor, both internally and externally. The major change to the new car was its engine. Whilst based on the SCs 3.0 litre power plant, Porsche claimed the 911 Carrera engine was 80 per cent new. The capacity was increased to 3164cc and a revised piston design increased the compression ratio to 10.3:1 on all but North American cars. But the Carreras main innovation was its Bosch Motronic 2 engine management system. This was the first production 911 to feature an ECU to control the ignition and fuel systems. In addition, the fuel injection was updated to Bosch LE-Jetronic and the induction and exhaust systems were revised.
The upshot of these improvements was that power rose to 231 bhp at 5900 rpm, with torque hitting 284 Nm at 4800rpm. Porsche claimed fuel consumption to be 10 percent better than that of the SC, because of the greater efficiency of the electronically controlled engine. The last of the 911 Carrera 3.2s was built in 1989 and the model was most popular with circa 76,000 cars built during six years of production. The approximate breakdown of models was c35,500 coupes, c20,000 cabriolets and c18,500 Targas. Porsche also offered the 911 Carrera 3.2 with the option of the Turbo body (option code M491), which is most often referred to as the wide body or in some markets Supersport.
Today the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 is recognised as an 80s icon and these cars are now becoming highly sought after.

PORSCHE SPEEDSTER

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale this Australian delivered, factory right hand drive 1976 Lamborghini Urraco P300.
Lamborghini built only 205 Urraco P300s of which it is understood that 34 were right hand drive. There were only 12 Australian delivered cars, making this a very unique example.
According to the Lamborghini factory records, this car was completed on the 8th November 1976. The car was originally giallo fly (yellow - paint code 2469019) with a nero (black) interior.
This car has an excellent history file, including its book set which contains the owners manual, service & warranty book and dealer directory in a Lamborghini leather pouch. There is also the original sales invoice, noting that the car was sold by Lolita Automobili Developments in Sydney to its first owner Mr MA Broso from Junee, just north of Wagga Wagga, NSW on the 8th May 1978.
The car was featured in issue #6 January February 1996 of the Lamborghini Club of Australias club magazine The Bulls Roar. In that article it is mentioned the car was on display at the Lolita stand at the 1978 Sydney International Motor Show. The article goes on to mention the car was initially intended to be the first prize in a Weet-Bix promotion and it was painted entirely yellow with a silly rear wing bolted on. The Weet-Bix promotion fell through and before the car went to its first owner the wing was removed.
The service book notes that the car was first serviced in February 1979 at 926 km (1,000 km service) and next in June 1982 at 5,242 km (5,000 km service). At that time the car was still owned by Broso.
By 1987 the car had changed hands and into the ownership of Ian Minter from Sydney. It was registered as LU300 (NSW). Minter had the car regularly service by Lolita Automobile Developments. An invoice from February 1990 notes the mileage as 19,962 km.
Minter sold the car through John McGrath & Co mid 1993 to a well known Sydney based Lamborghini enthusiast and at that time the odometer showed a genuine 26,000 km. The registration LU300 (NSW) was transferred with the car.
In 1996 the car changed hands, joining the collection of another Sydney based enthusiast and at that time the odometer read 36,463 km. Immediately after purchasing the car the registration was changed to the NSW private plate 2255. Additionally, its new owner chose to have the chrome window trims and door handles painted black, which gives the car a more aggressive look. He also had seats fitted from a Lamborghini Silhouette. These were retrimmed and there is an invoice on file from Clifford Powell in Darlinghurst in Sydney dated 21st September 1996.
The car remained in continuous ownership for the next 20 years, during which time it was used sparingly, travelling some 4,000 km.
By 2018 the car had found its way to Victoria. There is a Victorian certificate of roadworthiness on file dated 7th June 2018 which notes the odometer as 40,240 km. It has passed through a few owners in Melbourne before being acquired by its current Melbourne based owner just over two years ago.
Today the odometer reads 40,701 km.
The car makes an excellent first impression.
The Lamborghini Urraco is a stunning Bertone design and the shape carries colour extremely well. Most Lamborghinis look fabulous in yellow, however, it really does suit the Urraco. On this car, the yellow paint contrasts nicely with the black bumpers, louvers, window trims and engine cover.
The paint is in a really good condition. It has retained a strong depth of colour and high gloss finish. There are some very small and minor imperfections in the paint but you have to look hard to find them. Most noticeable is a small chip on the edge of the drivers door.
The external trim and the glass present well and the Lamborghini, Urraco and Bertone badges are present and correct. We love the In Rodaggio sticker on the front windscreen.
The Campagnolo wheels are in good condition with only a few small marks on them. They are shod with period correct Michelin XWX tyres size 205/70 VR14. They are date stamped 1115 (week 11, 2015) and are still in excellent condition. There is also an original spare wheel with the car.
The interior presents really well and being a 2+2 the cabin is quite spacious. The front seats are comfortable and provide ample support. The fabric is in a good condition with no rips or tears present. The rear seats have probably never been used and they along with the door cards and centre console present nicely. The dashboard, which looks to be original, also presents well. All the instruments are clean, clear and appear to be in a good working order. Urraco is stencilled on the gear shifter gate surround, which is just so period Italian. The steering wheel is showing some signs of wear but a good leather doctor could easily bring it up a level or two. The car is fitted with air conditioning and it was working well on our recent test drive, though do not expect the same performance as in a modern day car.
We do have a soft spot for the V8 Lamborghinis (the Urraco, Silhouette and Jalpa) and from the moment this car arrived at our showroom we were genuinely excited to find out if it drove as good as it looks. When the time came to take the car out for a photo shoot and test drive, we were not to be disappointed.
The car starts easily, even from cold and quickly settles into a smooth idle. That V8 sound is quite something and it is one of those things that if you know you know! Out on the open road our first impressions are confirmed. This car drives superbly. The engine revs freely, the throttle response is almost instant and the car just wants to go. The gearbox is often a weak point on a Urraco, especially when its cold. Shifting into second gear can often be difficult, but not on this car. The gear changes are smooth, both up and down the box, even when cold. Once it warms up it only gets better. The car handles superbly and the steering is quite direct. The brakes also work very well and pull the car up quickly and in a straight line when needed. Having period correct tyres on the car just adds to the look and also the driving experience.
As noted in our background story below, Mel Nichols wrote in the July - September 1976 issue of Sports Car World magazine . . . I was not hard pressed to conclude that the Urraco 3-litre is the most enjoyable car I have ever driven.
We understand why!

Background
The Lamborghini story is fascinating in itself, but for the company to have survived all these years and indeed celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2013 is quite amazing. Ferruccio Lamborghini was an entrepreneur, a very successful businessman and a lover of the finer things in life, including sports cars. He was fortunate enough to own some wonderful cars including Ferraris however, he found fault with them all. According to the legend following a meeting with Enzo Ferrari to discuss some of the short comings of his cars Enzo dismissed Ferruccio and he subsequently decided that he could build a better car.
Not long after, in May 1963, Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini SPA was established and the small town of Sant'Agata Bolognese, located between Modena and Bologna, was chosen as the location to build the factory. Born under the Zodiac sign Taurus Lamborghini chose the raging bull as the emblem for his sports cars.
Lamborghini knew what he wanted and he put together a highly skilled team. His first car the 350 GTV was shown at the Turin Motor Show in October 1963. This car received mixed reviews; however, Lamborghini was not deterred and made a number of improvements and design changes to the original concept. The first Lamborghini production car the 350 GT left the factory in mid-1964.
The 350 GT evolved into the 400 GT 2+2 and later the Islero. In parallel to building these classic front engine V12 GT cars Lamborghini wanted to build a super car, enter the Miura first shown as a rolling chassis in 1965, and also a GT car that could comfortably seat four people, enter the Espada in 1968. The mid to late sixties were good times for Lamborghini and his cars were revered the world over.
In 1970 the Islero was replaced by the Jarama. Lamborghini also wanted to enter the junior supercar market and introduced the Urraco or little bull, named for the fighting bull which killed the toreador Manoleten, at the 1970 Turin Motor Show. The Urraco attracted huge interest from the motoring world and Bertones classic wedge shape received critical acclaim at the time.
It wasnt until some two years later, in 1972, that the first production cars rolled off the Sant Agata production line. Lamborghini hoped to build the Urraco in big numbers, however, this never eventuated and only 520 of the P250s were built up until 1975 when the P300 was released. The world economy changed quickly and the early 1970s were a tough time for Lamborghini. Additionally, the Urraco had some teething problems early on and the car unfortunately developed a reputation as unreliable. This was perhaps unfair as once Lamborghini ironed out the bugs the car was in fact a little gem and properly sorted was a genuine threat to Ferraris 308, Maseratis Merak and the Porsche 911 of the day. The Urraco P300 was indeed a fabulous little car and in Sports Car World magazine July September 1976 Mel Nichols wrote: . . . I was not hard pressed to conclude that the Urraco 3-litre is the most enjoyable car I have ever driven. In the October 1978 issue of Car Magazine Nichols pits the Lamborghini Urracoagainst a Ferrari 308 GTB and a Maserati Merak SS. The article is compelling reading and Nichols picks the Urraco as his favourite.
Only 205 Urraco P300s were built. Lamborghini also built 66 Urraco P200s (with a 2 litre V8 engine) specifically for the Italian market.

LAMBORGHINI URRACO P300

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale a 1958 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk III (DB MkIII).
The British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate and factory records both confirm that this example was built on the 6th March 1958 and despatched on 1st April 1958 to Brooklands of Bond Street Limited (Guy Salmon Automobiles) for W M Perring & Company Limited, London in the UK.
The car was delivered new in Elusive Blue with a blue/grey interior. It was delivered with the following equipment: overdrive, instruction book, front disc brakes, rear alfin drum brakes, Avon Turbospeed tyres, twin SU HV6 carburettors and Armstrong shock absorbers.
There is an interesting note on the factory records which states this car competed in the 1958 Tulip Rally. There is a photo on file showing the car parked with other participants in the town of Champagnole in France during the rally.
In July 1967 Dr AR Adams, who worked at the Hollywood Repatriation General Hospital in Perth, decided he wanted an Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk III. He contacted Motorservices Automobile Engineers in Christchurch, UK to see if they could help him find one. There are various letters on file from Motorservices. It took until February 1969 before they were finally able to find the right car for him.
A follow up letter from the 3rd March 1969 gives the following details about the car: Registration number XXL 475, originally registered on 13th March 1958, changed hands in October 1959 when it was acquired by Mr GD Greaves of Berkhamstead, Hartfordshire. At that time the odometer showed nearly 60,000 miles.
Dr Adams engaged Motorservices to refresh his new Aston Martin prior to it being shipped to Australia. The car was completely repainted in its original colour at the cost of £100. The engine, radiator, suspension and wheels were overhauled, the exhaust system and headlight wiring were replaced.
There is a letter on file dated 15th July 1969 confirming that all the work on the car was complete. There is an accompanying invoice on file for a grand total of £548.
Dr Adams flew to the UK for a holiday and whilst he was there used his Aston Martin. After that the car was returned to Motorservices for some final checks and adjustments.
The car finally made its way to Australia onboard the Discovery Bay which left the UK on the 8th December 1969.
By at least the early 1980s Dr Adams had relocated to Quindalup, just south of Busselton in Western Australia, taking his beloved Aston Martin with him.
Incredibly, Dr Adams owned this car for more than 40 years! Following his passing in February 2012 the car was sold to a well known Perth based classic car enthusiast and collector. The car remained in his care from September 2012 through until December 2022 when it was sold by Oldtimer Australia to its current Melbourne based owner. At that time the odometer read 86,732 miles.
The car was immediately sent to highly respected Rolls-Royce, Bentley and British car specialist Simon Elliott at the Derby Works. The brakes were serviced, the steering box was adjusted and the suspension was greased. The horn and battery isolation switch were repaired. A new set of Michelin X tyres were fitted. It was noted that the exhaust was tired and the owner decided to order a new exhaust system from QuickSilver Exhausts Ltd in the UK.
In October 2023 Derby Works were engaged to overhaul the suspension. All new parts were ordered from Aston Service Dorset in the UK. This included new front and rear springs as well as an uprated anti roll bar.
In February 2024 Derby Works adjusted the handbrake.
Today this Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk III presents as an incredible time capsule. The car was repainted in its original colour back in 1969 but apart from that everything looks to be essentially original. And, as the say . . .it can only be original once!
The overall presentation of the car is consistent with what one would expect given its originality. This is a car that has obviously been used and enjoyed as its makers intended, but it has clearly been cherished and very well maintained over the years. The work completed in Adams ownership is too extensive for our write up, however, most notably the engine was rebuilt, including new liners and pistons, and the gearbox was rebuilt. This work was completed by Samios Restorations in Northbridge (Perth) from mid 1996 through until early 1997. At that time the odometer read 38,287 miles
Elusive Blue is a unique a stunning colour for the car. From say a meter away the paint presents well, but on closer inspection you will notice some imperfections and wear and tear consistent with what the car is. There are few bubbles evident on the body caused by electrolysis. These are most noticeable on the lower right rear panel near the edge of the door and on the lower front section of the right door itself. There are also a few dents on the roof and bonnet, which looks as though it may have been caused by hail damage or an errant golf ball!
The brightwork on the car is generally in a good condition, especially when you consider the age of the car. The bumpers, the overriders, the strip on the side of the car and the window surrounds present well. The glass is also in good condition and there are no cracks evident.
The wire wheels are in good condition with no kerb rash evident. They are shod with Michelin X tyres, size 185R16. These are date stamped 1422 (week 14, 2022) and are in excellent condition
The condition and presentation of the interior is consistent with the exterior of the car. The upholstery is most likely all original. The seats are in a good condition with no cracks or tears evident in the leather, though they have faded a little over the years. The same can be said of the carpets which are generally in a good condition though they do show signs of wear and are faded in certain areas. The dashboard is typically 1950s with large Smiths instruments behind a large steering wheel. On our test drive all the instruments appeared to be in working order, though we did notice that the speedo and tacho do waver.
From cold the car will need the choke to start. It then starts easily and you can back the choke off straight away and use the throttle to gently warm the engine up before driving. First impressions are good, the engine revs freely and responds well to the slightest touch of the throttle. The gearbox also feels firm and the gear changes are smooth both up and down the box even when cold. The car is fitted with overdrive, which works well. The brakes are adequate and pull the car up in a straight line when needed.
The car feels solid on the road though we did notice play on the steering wheel, which looks to be coming from the steering box.
Accompanying the car, is its complete original tool kit including the jack and hammer as well as a spare wheel.
The history file with this car, which is three full lever arch files of documentation plus original owners manual, parts manual and more, is simply amazing. There is a huge amount of correspondence and invoices on file covering the 40 plus year ownership of the car by Dr Adams.

Whilst Aston Martin produced some wonderful cars in their early years, business was always a struggle and the company was severely disrupted during both World War I and II. The company went bankrupt on more than one occasion and has endured many different owners throughout its history.
David Brown acquired Aston Martin in February 1947 and the first car produced during his ownership was the Aston Martin 2 Litre Sports, later known as the DB1, which was built in extremely limited numbers from 1948 to 1950. This was succeeded by the Aston Martin DB2 in 1950, which featured a new double overhead cam straight six engine of 2.6 litre (2580 cc) capacity, and was a car that really put post war Aston Martin on the map. Some 411 cars were built from 1950 to 1953, of which circa 100 were the convertible or drop head coupes.
Its successor, known as the DB2/4, was first shown at the London Motor Show in 1953 and production started soon thereafter. Initially the car had the same engine as its predecessor, however, it was enlarged to 2922cc in April 1954. Compared to the DB2 the DB2/4 had an extended roof line with a larger rear window, a one-piece curved windscreen and real bumper bars. The biggest difference between the two cars was inside the cabin where the successor had far more room with two small occasional rear seats. The DB2/4 sold well through until 1957. In total 764 DB2/4s were built which included 565 of the Mk Is and 199 of the Mk IIs. The biggest change for the Mk II was that the bodies were made in-house by the recently acquired Tickford Coachbuilding Works in Newport Pagnell, otherwise the differences between the Mk I and Mk II were subtle. The DB2/4 was available as a four seat fixed head coupe or two seat drop head coupe from the start of production with a two seat coupe introduced on the Mk II.The DB2/4 MkII was succeeded by the DB MkIII and 551 examples were built from 1957 through until 1959. 462 hatchbacks, 84 drophead coupes and 5 fixed head coupes. Of the 551 83 were LHD.
The MkIII was nearly 9 longer than the DB2 and weighed about 159kg more, an increase of about 15%, but more than an extra 50% power was available from the standard DBA engine, compared with the original LB6B engine.
The David Brown era was arguably Aston Martins finest with the company winning Le Mans in 1959 and the iconic early DB series cars of the 1950s paving the way for the legendary DB4, DB5 and DB6 models of the 1960s.

1958 ASTON MARTIN DB 2/4 MK III

The car is finished in the most striking and unique colour combination of Grigio Metallic, paint code FER 700/C with a dark blue interior (Blu Scuro 3282). What a fabulous colour combination for a Testarossa. It just gives the car a very distinguished appearance.
Documentation on file from the Maranello Concessionaires Archive confirms the information above. It also confirms this car is a matching numbers example where engine, gearbox, chassis and assembly number are all correct.
This car was first registered as a demonstrator by Maranello Sales Limited in Egham, Surrey, UK on 5th April 1991. It was registered as EHF1, a plate Maranello Sales often uses for registering demonstrators.
Accompany this car is its original book set, including the service book, which confirms that this Ferrari Testarossa retains its original matching numbers engine. The service book confirms that this car was regularly serviced throughout its life. From new through until 2003 all the work was completed by Maranello Concessionaires. The service book entries note:

The car passed through a few owners in the UK before being acquired by the current Gold Coast based owner on the 2nd March 2010. When he acquired the car the odometer read 26,546 miles. In the UK the car was registered as H705LPE.
After acquiring the car the current owner kept the car in the UK until 2013 when it was imported into Australia. There is an import approval on file dated 10th April 2013. The car finally arrived in Australia on the 10th July 2013. It was then put through the compliance process and finally registered in Queensland on 4th February 2014.
Prior to shipping the car to Australia, the radiator was rebuilt, the brake discs and pads were replaced and the front track rod ends were replaced.
In October 2014 the owner decided to fit a new Larini sports exhaust system. In November 2015 two new upgraded fuel pumps were fitted. The work was completed by Maranello Auto Services on the Gold Coast.
In November 2019, with 28,459 miles on the odometer, Maranello Auto Services serviced the car and replaced the timing belts.
In December 2022 Ferrari Gold Coast serviced the brakes and overhauled the callipers. At that time the odometer read 28,476 miles. In May 2023 they refurbished the fuse box and the associated circuit boards. Then in March 2025, they repaired a leak in the AC system , replaced the rocker cover drain tube gaskets and repaired a minor leak in the coolant tank.
Throughout his 15 years of ownership, the current owner has used the car sparingly, travelling some 2,000 miles in this time.
At time of photographing this car the odometer read 28,637mls which is confirmed by its service book as genuine.
From the moment we first laid eyes on this car we have been infatuated by the colour. It is refreshing to see a Testarossa in a colour different other than the ubiquitous red or black! Note: we do love Testarossas in red and black, but Grigio Metallic is something special!
Overall the paint on the car is in very good condition and it has retained a strong depth of colour and a deep gloss finish. If you look closely youll see the odd small imperfection but they are hard to see. The condition of the paint is more consistent with a car that has travelled c28,000 miles, rather than one that is 34 years old!
The glass is all in good condition with no cracks evident. The same can be said for all the external trim, including the lights and lenses.
Importantly, this car is clean underneath and it is NOT your typical English car. It has obviously been looked after in the UK and probably rarely or never used on salty roads. Its condition is equal to what you would see when inspecting an Australian delivered car, though of course the Ferrari Testarossa was never sold new in Australia. We have underside photos we can share with interested parties.
The wheels are the original 16 inch alloys, shod with Michelin Pilot Sport SX tyres, size 255/50/ZR16. The tyres are still in a good condition but the date stamps on them tell us they are old and really should be replaced on age if the next owner is considering doing some serious driving with the car.
The font luggage compartment is neat, clean and tidy. The space saver spare wheel is stored under the carpet.
Inside the cabin everything presents well, showing some light patina in places. The upholstery is dark blue, which compliments the paint work perfectly. The seats are firm and provide ample support. The leather is in a good condition with no tears evident, though both seats have some minor scratches on the side. On the drivers seat this is most likely caused by scratching the leather when engaging and disengaging the hand brake. A good leather doctor can easily repair this. The navy blue carpets are also in very good condition. The hard rubber mat on the drivers door sill shows some wear. The dashboard is a weak point on a Testarossa as the leather often pulls loose. On this car it is in excellent condition. All the instruments are clear and appear to be in good working order. The leather steering wheel also presents well.
Ferraris are made to be driven and we were genuinely excited to take this one out for a short test drive and photo shoot. We were not disappointed and a Ferrari Testarossa is also surprisingly easy to drive.
The car starts easily from cold and then quickly settles into a smooth idle. The Larini sports exhaust certainly gives the car an edge, without being too loud. After allowing the engine some time to warm up we gently nudge the car out into the morning traffic. A Ferrari Testarossa is a wide car at almost 2 meters, though you do not really notice that when you are driving it. Fortunately, the mirrors work well and give you a good sense of the dimensions of the car.
This car ticks a lot of boxes. It drives superbly, the engine revs freely and there is plenty of power on tap when you need it. The gearbox is smooth and the gear changes are easy both up and down the box. This car is a very useable car. It is quite happy to just sit in traffic and drive around town at 60 km/h, yet when the road opens up and traffic clears and you get the opportunity to shift down and press the accelerator to the floor you do realise that this is a real super car and you could very easily get yourself into trouble! With a quoted top speed of circa 285 km/hr and 0 100 km/hr in a tick over 5 seconds, the Ferrari Testarossa was one of the fastest cars you could buy in the late 1980s / early 1990s. Given the performance, it was pleasing to note that the brakes work well and pull the car up quickly and in a straight line when needed.

Background:
Apple, Coca-Cola, McDonalds and Nike are brands recognisable the world over. So is Ferrari and interestingly the iconic Italian luxury sports car manufacturer was named The Worlds Strongest Brand in the 2019 Brand Finance Global 500 Report.
Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1939 out of Alfa Romeos race division as Auto Avio Costruzioni the company built its first car in 1940.
The Cavallino Rampate or prancing horse was the symbol chosen by Ferrari and like the golden arches it is recognised by just about every man, woman and child on the planet!
Twelve cylinder engines are synonymous with Ferrari. In fact, Enzo Ferraris very first car, the 1947 125S was powered by a 1.5 Litre V12 engine. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s the majority of Enzos masterpieces were powered by V12 engines of varying capacity. Interestingly all of these cars had the engine located in the front. Cross town rivals Lamborghini introduced their stunning Miura in 1966, which was powered by a transversely mounted V12 engine located behind the driver. This spectacular car took the motoring world by storm and sent shock waves throughout Ferrari HQ in Maranello. Ferraris answer, the 365 GTB/4 Daytona, was a fabulous motor car in its own right, but there was always something about the mid-engined sports car that gave it an edge.
It took until 1971 for Ferrari to unveil its first mid-engined sports car, the 365 GT/4 Berlinetta Boxer. The Boxer was very well received and it ultimately went into production and replaced the Daytona in 1973. Interestingly Ferrari opted for a flat 12 rather than a V12 engine configuration. The engine was mounted longitudinally rather than transversely as Lamborghini did with the Miura.
The Boxer was a great success for Ferrari and along with the Lamborghini Countach was one of the very real supercars of the seventies. The 365 GT/4 Berlinetta Boxer (387 cars built) was replaced by the 512 Berlinetta Boxer (929 cars built) in 1976, which was then replaced by the 512 BBi (1007 cars built) in 1981.
In 1984 at the Paris Auto Show Ferrari introduced the Ferrari Testarossa (Tipo F110) as a successor to the 512BBi.
The name was chosen to pay homage to the famed World Sportscar Championship winning 1957 250 Testa Rossa sports racing car. Testa Rossa, which literally means red head in Italian, refers to the red painted cam covers sported by both cars 12 cylinder engines.
The car was a huge success for Ferrari with its then flagship selling in massive number the world over. Incredibly, 7,177 Testarossas were built over eight years of production. Its successor, the 512 TR was introduced in 1991 and just over 2,200 cars were built through until 1994. The final iteration of the Testarossa was the 512M, produced from 1994 to 1996 with just over 500 cars built.

1991 FERRARI TESTAROSSA

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale this beautiful, low mileage and incredibly original 1972 De Tomaso Pantera.
This car was built in February 1972 and was sold new through Uptown Motors Inc, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA in May 1973. The Marti report on file confirms that this relatively early, chrome bumper Pantera was delivered new in red with a black interior, which is how it is presented today.
It is understood that the original owner was something of an eccentric recluse who, after driving the car for just a few years and travelling only 9,000 miles, parked the car up in a barn in 1979. It remained there for over 30 years until it was discovered by Gregory Kreiger, a retired race car engineer from Wisconsin, in 2010.
It was in remarkable original condition with no rust or any evidence of any accident damage. Importantly, it had the original Campagnolo wheels fitted, which remain on the car today.
Kreiger subsequently acquired the car and there is a Wisconsin Certificate of Title on file dated the 28th September 2011. The original Wisconsin number plate is still with the car. It was registered as EN6688.
The previous owner acquired the car on the 16th September 2012 and subsequently imported it into Australia. There is an import approval on file dated the 2nd October 2012. The car departed the USA onboard the Kota Wangi on the 17th December 2012 and arrived in Australia on the 6th January 2013.
The car was then treated to a sympathetic restoration, whilst importantly preserving its originality. The car was repainted in its original colour and at that time new door and window rubbers were installed. The chrome was also replated. The car was in excellent mechanical condition, however, the engine had a noisy lifter which prompted a complete strip down and rebuild. When the engine was stripped everything inside was 100% original and consistent with a low mileage car right down to standard bores and original Ford bearing shells. The air conditioning system was also reconditioned. The interior was in very good condition and was not touched.
Once back on the road and registered in Victoria the car was regularly seen at various events throughout Victoria. It was voted Best Car on Display at the Winton Festival of Speed in 2018.
The current owner acquired the car in August 2023 and it joined a diverse collection of Aussie muscle cars and modern supercars.
The car has been sparingly used over the last two and half years and today the odometer reads 17,199 miles. In his ownership the front brake calipers and hand brake have been overhauled.
The current owner has now decided to go in a slightly different direction with his collection and as a result this wonderful Pantera is being reluctantly offered for sale.
Weve always had a soft spot for the De Tomaso Pantera particularly the early chrome bumper cars and when one comes along like this, completely stock with its original interior, factory wheels, ID plates/tags still in place and even the toolkit intact, it truly gets us excited!
This car is one out of the box and walking up to it gets the heart racing . . . it has an incredible presence!
Although the car was repainted some 12 years ago, the finish still retains a rich, even tone and a deep, high gloss finish, presenting to a very high standard. The previous owner used and enjoyed this car as Mr De Tomaso intended and as a result there are a few small, fine stone chips here and there. They are relatively minor and do not detract from the overall presentation of the car.
The external trim is delicate and minimalistic. The trims, small chrome bumpers and badges (which are most likely original) all present really well. The lights and lenses are all in good condition and appear to be original. The side reflectors still have the Ford logo on them. All the glass appears to be original and shows the Sicursiv etching. All the rubbers are as new and present accordingly.
The original De Tomaso branded Campagnolo wheels are a real feature. They are made from a lightweight forged magnesium alloy and as such present with a textured finish. They are not perfectly smooth like an alloy wheel. They have been repainted at some stage but are still in a good condition with no evidence of any kerb rash. The wheels are shod with BF Goodrich Radial T/A tyres, size 205/60/R15 at the front and 225/70/R15 at the rear. These front tyres are date stamped 0511 (week 5, 2011), the rear tyres are date stamped 1712 (week 17, 2012).
Opening the rear hatch reveals a tray and the original Campagnolo spare wheel. To get to the engine both have to be removed. The engine bay is exceptionally clean and everything looks to be very original.
The interior presents beautifully. We just love its originality and everything is just the way it was when the car left the factory back in 1972. The only exception is the timber steering wheel and whilst its suits the car it is not original. The original steering wheel is of course with the car and that can easily be refurbished (a relatively simple task) and refitted. The seats, which are in excellent condition, are still firm and provide plenty of support. The dashboard, centre console, door cards, carpets and headlining are also in very good condition. The instruments and controls also present really well and on our test drive everything appeared to be in good working order. Even the radio still works!
In the front of the car you will find a very well presented, small storage compartment which contains the original toolkit and jack for the car.
Italian design with American power is a proven formula and it certainly delivered for De Tomaso. We were keen to fire up the Ford 351ci V8 engine and find out if the car sounds as good as it looks. There was only one way to find out and after flipping a coin to see who would get the honour of driving the car first, it was time for our test drive. The starting procedure is simple insert the key into the ignition, turn it to engage power, wait a few seconds for the fuel pump to prime the carburetor and then turn the key fully. The big V8 roared to life almost instantly on the first crank and it quickly settled into a remarkably smooth idle, but with a distinctive baritone rumble. It just sounds so good! There are no rattles, or other mechanical noises, it just sounds like it would have when its first owner picked the car up in 1973.
The gated gear shift is another feature and after notching the lever into first gear, which is a dog leg left and towards you, it is time to go! Any De Tomaso Pantera is a great car to drive but this one is particularly special. It becomes immediately obvious that this is one very well sorted car. The engine revs freely and it just begs to be let loose! The throttle is surprisingly responsive and a firm press on the accelerator pushes you back in your seat. The gear changes are firm and direct and once the gearbox warms up they they become even smoother. The car feels tight and composed on the road, handles beautifully, and the brakes provide confident, straight line stopping power whenever needed.
Whilst we all love the high revving Italian V8s and V12s, there is just something about that deep rumble from the Ford V8 that sits behind you that is highly addictive. Additionally, the Ford V8 offers arguably a more reliable and cost effective power plant to its Italian competitors.
De Tomasos are good news and in recent times we have seen Mangusta and early Pantera values sky rocket. This is also the case in North America, where Panteras are relatively easy to find. That said, it is not often that you will find a car like this!
One thing is for sure, wherever you go, this De Tomaso Pantera will attract plenty of attention. And, yes you will well and truly hear it coming before it actually arrives!

Background
Born on 10th July 1928 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Alejandro De Tomaso grew up among a family known to be quite politically influential and very wealthy.
From an early age racing and race cars had been a real passion for De Tomaso. In 1945 he drove his first race in a modified Bugatti Type 35. In 1954 he was offered the opportunity to race for Maserati in the 1,000 km race of Buenos Aires and returned to win that race in 1955 a Maserati A6GCS.
That same year De Tomaso moved to Italy and started working for OSCA in Bologna as a test driver. In the meantime, he kept racing. In 1957 he won the 1,500cc class at the Buenos Aires 1,000 km race driving a new OSCA. In 1958 he drove an OSCA with a 750cc engine at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and finished a very credible 11th overall, averaging over 140km/h.
In 1958 De Tomaso built his first car. It featured the 750cc OSCA engine mounted in front of the rear axle, quite an unusual design for that time. Unfortunately, the car never raced as the Maserati bothers, who owned OSCA, forbid him to use the engine.
In 1959 De Tomaso moved to Modena and built his second car, an F2 race car, again which an OSCA engine which this time he was allowed to use. The car made its debut at Sebring in 1959. The car was called Isis after his wife. Unfortunately, mechanical issues forced the car to retire from the race. After many more adventures and attempts to produce various race cars, De Tomaso introduced their first production car in 1965, a two seater coupe named Vallelunga. The car remained in production until 1967 and 59 examples were built including the prototype.
In 1966 De Tomaso opened a new factory which allowed him to follow his dreams and expand production of his cars. In 1967 the De Tomaso Mangusta was introduced. The stunning Mangusta, which was penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro whilst working for Ghia, remained in production through until 1971 and 401 examples were produced. In 1967 De Tomaso acquired Carrozzeria Ghia and 1969 he acquired Carrozzeria Vignale. These acquisitions were not financially successful, however, they did provide an introduction to Henry Ford II, which ultimately had a big impact on his future.
The Ford Motor Company subsequently took a controlling stake in De Tomaso as well as Ghia and Vignale.
This relationship led to one of the worlds most iconic sports cars being developed the legendary De Tomaso Pantera. Designed by Carrozzeria Ghias American born Tom Tjaarda, the Pantera was built with the American market in mind. De Tomaso had the rights to sell the Pantera, except in North America, where Ford sold the car through their Lincoln-Mercury dealers. The Pantera was a huge success, with more than 7,000 cars built before production ceased in 1992.
Models included the standard Pantera, Pantera L (for the US market), Pantera GTS, Pantera GT5, Pantera GT5S and Pantera 90 Si.

DE TOMASO PANTERA

A new arrival at Oldtimer Australia is this very impressive, opulent 1930 Packard 740 Custom Eight Roadster (7th Series).
Ask the Man Who Owns One was Packards famous advertising slogan. It was a simple but powerful line, suggesting that the best endorsement of a Packard car came from its owners themselves - reinforcing the brands reputation for luxury, quality, and reliability.
There is no doubt that this Packard 740 Custom Eight is all of these things and a whole lot more!
The early history of this car is not known. It was understood to have been a North American car that was imported into Australia at some stage and restored by highly regarded Packard specialist Barry Smith from Tamworth in NSW. The project took around four years and was completed in 1997 This car started life as a Packard 740 Custom Eight Sedan and it was stripped to a bare chassis and rebodied as a Roadster.
There is an excellent photo album with approximately 250 photos of the restoration on file. Whilst the car initially appeared to be in reasonable condition, the extent of the work required became immediately apparent once the disassembly began, revealing it to be a far more substantial project than first anticipated.
The restoration photographs are highly detailed, clearly illustrating the extent of the work undertaken. If any car can truly be described as a nut and bolt restoration, this is it - every component was removed and not a single nut or bolt was left untouched.
The car was sold to the Gosford Car Museum in late 2015 / early 2016 and this car along with a few other Packards formed one of their featured displays. The Gosford Car Museum closed in February 2019 and the current owner acquired the car from their closing down auction. At that time the odometer read 5,359 miles.
The current owner is moving overseas and made the difficult decision to sell his beloved Packard. He has used the car from time to time and at the time of photographing, the odometer read 5,882 miles.
Today this Packard presents superbly and it is hard to believe that it was restored some 30 years ago! It has the appearance of a recently restored car, which is true testament to Smith and all those involved in the work.
The two tone burgundy colour scheme suits the car perfectly. The paint is in excellent condition, retaining a rich depth of colour and it still presents with a high gloss finish. Yes, if you look closely you will be able to find the odd small stone chip and some other minor paint imperfections, but you really will have to look closely. Considering the size of the car, this is particularly impressive, as it would be very easy to pick up a stone chip or some other damage. The most noticeable chip is located along the upper edge where the drivers door meets the body, likely the result of slight door sag causing it to catch if not closed with care.
The beige soft top is in very good condition overall, with the fabric presenting well. Only very minor, superficial wear was noted on the right rear side, near where it attaches to the body. The rear window is clear and in good order.
The windscreen and the glass wind deflectors on both sides are all in a good condition with no chips or cracks.
The bright work on this car is a real feature . . . and there is lots of it! It obviously starts with the very imposing radiator grill adorned with the equally striking Goddess of Speed hood ornament. Then there are all the lights, bumpers, window surrounds, door handles, mirrors and of course the wire wheels! Everything is so period and it is all in very good condition.
The wheels are a true work of art and present in excellent condition with no sign of any curb rash or damage. They are fitted with Lester white wall tyres, size 7.00 19, which are still in a good condition. A nice detail are the Packard Motor Car Co branded wheel centres.
The condition of the interior is every bit as impressive as the exterior. The leather seats present as though they were only recently retrimmed. They are firm, supportive and very comfortable. In the photos, the drivers seat is shown with its original base fitted. The current owner is quite tall and he has had a slightly thinner base made that can be easily swapped in, allowing the driver to sit a little lower.
Behind the front seats is a small lockable storage compartment. The leather on the rumble seat is also in excellent condition. The dashboard, whilst simple in design, presents well. The instruments are clear and on our test drive they all appeared to be in good working order with the exception of the fuel gauge.
To complete the look of the car, the current owner sourced a period correct trunk, which presents in excellent condition.
The presentation of the engine bay is every bit as impressive as the rest of the car. Beneath the bonnet sits Packards superb inline eight-cylinder engine, finished in its correct Packard Engine Green. The colour is subtle, yet elegant, which perfectly complements the cars refined character. Everything under the bonnet is neat, clean and tidy.
Unlike many cars from this era, starting this Packard is very easy. First step is to turn the ignition on. This car is fitted with an after market electric fuel pump which needs to be turned on using the small toggle switch mounted underneath the dashboard. Then you pull the choke out, pump the accelerator 3-4 times and press the starter button which is mounted on the floor next to the accelerator.
The engine will crank and once enough fuel is sucked into the carburettors the straight eight starts easily. The choke needs to be backed off almost immediately and you warm up the engine by feathering the throttle as required. The engine, which is incredibly smooth and very quiet, quickly settles into a smooth idle.
The driving position in this Packard 740 Custom Eight Roadster is distinctly upright and commanding, very much in keeping with the grand touring cars of its era. You sit high in the car, with a clear view over the long, sweeping bonnet and the prominent radiator, giving a strong sense of presence on the road.
This Packard is by no means a small car, but it is surprisingly easy to drive. One characteristic we noted is that the throttle is quite heavy, though it is something you quickly become accustomed to. It also immediately apparent that this car has plenty of power on tap and it will easily keep up with modern traffic. The gear changes are pretty smooth and the engine has so much torque that you dont really need to change gears that often anyway! For a 1930s car, the brakes are also surprisingly good. They pull the car up quickly and in a straight line when needed.
This car has an incredible presence and it would have made a splash in Hollywood back in the day. While any vintage car is likely to turn heads today, this imposing Packard 740 Custom Eight Roadster takes it to another level, stopping people in their tracks wherever it goes. We received plenty of thumbs up during the drive to our photo shoot location.
Following its restoration, the car was shown regularly at various events, where it went on to win a number of awards. In July 1997 it attended the NRMA American Independents Day car display where it won two awards. It won the trophy for the Best Vintage Car and another for The Longest Distance Travelled. In the same year the car was taken to the Shannons Eastern Creek Classic Concours dElegance where it won the Vintage Cars category.
Accompanying the car is a second hood ornament (an Adonis), headlight covers, CTEK 6 volt battery charger, two service parts books, three trophies and a photo album of the restoration.

Background
In the 1890s the brothers James and William Packard founded the Packard Electric Company specialising in electrical manufacturing. Soon after that they also founded the New York & Ohio Company, which specialised in the manufacturing of incandescent lamps.
On his travels throughout the United States, James started to take interest in the horseless carriage and wanted to develop one that did not rely on steam or electricity. The Packard brothers produced their first automobile on November 6th 1899, the Model A Packard and drove it on the streets of Warren, Ohio. Soon after the brothers teamed up with George Weiss from Winton and production was up and running. Between 1899 and 1903 they built 400 cars. These were sold under the name of the Ohio Automobile Company. The business prospered and in late 1902 the company was rebranded as the Packard Motor Car Company and production moved from Ohio to a purpose built facility in Detroit.
The Packard brothers stayed involved in the company for the next couple of years but by 1909 started to move away from the business. Under company President and General Manager, James Alvan Macauley, Packard became the number one designer and producer of luxury automobiles in the United States and was held in the same regard as the Pierce Arrow company of Buffalo, New York and the Peerless company of Cleveland, Ohio.
The Great Depression hit car manufacturers hard but Packard managed to survive and shifted focus on mid-range automobiles when the interest in higher priced cars diminished. This turned out to be a good move and Packard saw their sales triple in 1935 and double in 1936.
Packard is well known for its iconic advertising slogan Ask the Man Who Owns One, however, it should also be better recognised for its engineering achievements and innovation.
Some of the major innovations bought to the motor car by Packard included: the H pattern gear shift, the modern steering wheel (which replaced the tiller), the first production 12 cylinder engine, four wheel brakes and air-conditioning on a mass produced motor car.
In 1954 Packard merged with Studebaker which turned out to be the beginning of the end for Packard. The Packard name was phased out by 1962 and the last Studebaker rolled off the production line on March 16th 1966.
As a luxury motor vehicle manufacturer Packard was best known for its eight and twelve cylinder models, however, the company had great success with its six cylinder range of cars also. The Packard Sixes had many of the benefits of their big brothers but were more competitively priced, hence, appealed to a broader market.
The model 740 (7th series) was introduced in 1929 and powered by an 385ci 8-cylinder inline engine which produced 106hp. In total 6,200 were produced though it is not known how many of each body style were produced.

1930 PACKARD 740

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale a 1966 Mercedes-Benz 600 Grosser.
There is a copy of the Mercedes-Benz data card on file which confirms this to be an Australian delivered, factory right hand drive example. It was originally finished in dunkelrot (dark red), colour code 542G with white grey upholstery and cream carpets (trim code 221). The car has a number of options, including air conditioning (option code 306).
Interestingly, the cars data plate notes option code 901, which is for a flagpole right, so perhaps this was either an embassy or government owned car.
The cars history file dates back to the early 1980s and at that time the car was owned by a Mr Ian Haggerty from Sydney, NSW. It is understood that Haggerty was a long term owner of this Mercedes-Benz 600 and the documentation on file suggests he sold the car in June 1990.
The car was acquired by a classic car enthusiast from Noosa on Queenslands Sunshine Coast, most likely in the late 1990s. He wanted to restore the car and in 2001 engaged the services of Sleeping Beauties in Brisbane, one of Australias leading high end restoration shops. Sleeping Beauties are classic Mercedes-Benz specialists and they have restored cars that have been exhibited at the Pebble Beach Concours dElegance.
The journey was a slow one and over the next five years the car was cosmetically restored and the interior was refreshed. In conjunction with Sleeping Beauties the owner chose to have car repainted in Mercedes-Benz light ivory (a very light yellow) and retrimmed in light olive green.
The major mechanical components were checked and deemed to be in very good order, hence, not rebuilt. Three Point Classic in Mount Gravatt were engaged to overhaul the air suspension, hydraulics and other mechanical ancillaries.
The work was completed in 2015 and the end result was simply stunning. The colour combination is unique and a refreshing change from the more common palette of black, white and silver often seen on these Mercedes-Benz grand limousines! The car was shown at the Mercedes-Benz Club of Queenslands 2015 Concours dElegance where it was very well received, winning its class.
In 2016 the cars owner relocated overseas and made the difficult decision to sell his car collection, including this Mercedes-Benz. In August of that year it was sold to a prominent Brisbane based motor trade executive and classic car collector. At that time the odometer read 76,544 miles. He used the car sparingly but as with all his cars decided to go on a journey to take an exceptional motor car to the next level. Additional mechanical work was undertaken by Three Point Classic along with other adoc jobs by his own private mechanic/restoration specialist.
In August 2022 the car was sold to the current owner who lives in country Victoria and at that time the odometer read c77,000 miles. He is another classic car tragic who has a significant collection of cars. He is a fussy owner who regularly services his cars and if something needs to be done, he gets it done. Throughout his ownership the car has been maintained by the highly respected Auto Projects in Ballarat, Victoria. They recently completed a complete overhaul of the braking system.
The current owner has enjoyed his time with this Mercedes-Benz 600 Grosser, travelling over 3,000 miles in his three years of ownership. He is taking his collection in a different direction and as a result this car is now offered for sale.
At the time of photographing the car the odometer read 80,286 miles.
Whilst the car carries what is considered an older restoration, it still presents exceptionally well. The light ivory paintwork presents beautifully, complemented nicely by all the chrome trim which is in excellent condition. Defects are hard to find. The balance of the external trim, including the lights and lenses as well as the glass is all in equally as good condition. The panel gaps are excellent and the doors shut with that 'thud' exactly as they would have back in 1966!
Inside the cabin it is all luxury. Whilst the exterior of this car is stunning, we think the interior is even better! The olive green upholstery is just stunning! Everything presents essentially like new. It is most likely that no one has even sat in the rear seats since the car was restored. The upholstery, the headlining and even the carpets are all beautifully presented. The timber is generally in excellent condition, though there are some hairline cracks in the lacquer on the timber dash.
At the time of our test drive all of the instruments and controls looked to be in working order. The air conditioning has recently been upgraded with a modern system and it blows ice cold air. The main control switch for the air conditioning, along with the fan control for the demister and the heater tap is discreetly hidden under the dash to the right of the steering column.
The cockpit is aeroplane like with all of its switches and buttons that operate the various accessories such as the windows, front and rear seats, the suspension and more. Even the cowl vent is hydraulically operated by a switch on the dashboard. All of these items are hydraulic and operate rapidly and silently in a way that is impressive even today.
Under the massive bonnet the engine bay presents well and everything is neat, clean and tidy.
The boot is also clean and tidy. The hard plastic lining looks to be original and it is in good condition with no cracks evident. The hydraulic service kit is still present in its original case and the spare wheel lives in its own compartment. We should mention that there is an issue with the hydraulic control valve for the boot, which is not currently operating correctly.
Unfortunately, many of our test drives are over too quickly! However, on this occasion we had this car out and about for well over an hour and as a result were able to get a really good feel for how it performed.
The car was ready for us when we arrived so the engine was warm. At the turn of the key the stonking V8 cranks over and soon fires, catching on all cylinders. As you would expect, the engine is incredibly smooth. It is also incredibly quiet. With a wheel base of 3.2 metres and an overall length of 5.54 metres make no mistake this is a big car. Interestingly the length kind of disappears once you are behind the wheel but seated in the back its hard not to be somewhat overawed by the size of the car. This fabulous Mercedes-Benz just goes about its business in a very efficient and considered manner. The ride is quite unbelievable for a fifty year old car . . . it just glides along the road without any fuss. You push the accelerator and the car proceeds effortlessly, you turn the steering wheel and the car just follows in the direction you want it to go, you apply the brakes and the car slows or rather decelerates effortlessly again . . . the whole experience is just so incredibly refined. Even thoughit weighs in around two and half tonnes, the big Benz pulls hard when needed. Mercedes-Benz quoted a top speed of near 130 mph (210 km/hr) and a 0-60 mph (100 km/hr) sprint of under 10 seconds!
This Mercedes-Benz 600 Grosser is truly outstanding and its presentation today is a testament to the build quality of the car as well as the quality of the restoration work completed.

Background
Following the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, Europes car industry was decimated. In Germany both Daimler and Benz went back to producing cars post-war, however, times were tough. A merger between Daimler and Benz would ensure that both companies survived and following a technical co-operation agreement in 1924, the companies formally merged on the 1st July 1926. Mercedes-Benz was born!
Subsequently, Mercedes-Benz went on to build some of the greatest cars of all time. The cars from Stuttgart bearing the three-pointed star all had one thing in common . . . they were renowned for their technical innovation, build quality, luxury and performance.
In 1951 Mercedes-Benz introduced the Type W187 220 series cars, which was the first model to be powered by a six cylinder engine post World War II. This model was a great success and built in relatively big numbers. It was succeeded by the Type W180 series cars in 1954, which like its predecessor was available as a sedan, coupe and convertible.
In the 1950s Mercedes-Benz produced one of the greatest cars of all time the iconic 300SL Gullwing and 300SL Roadster. Whilst fabulous sporting cars, they were very expensive and generally sold to the rich and famous. The Type W186 and Type W189 300 series four door luxury tourers were built alongside the Type W198 300SL Gullwing and Roadster and they were indeed fabulous cars in their own right, though still very expensive.
In the early 1960s Mercedes-Benz also wanted to go back to their roots of the 1930s and build the worlds best saloon car.
First introduced back in 1963 at the Frankfurt Auto Show, the Mercedes-Benz 600 Grosser or Grand Mercedes was a luxury car with few peers at that time. The new Type W100 set about re-establishing Mercedes-Benz as the maker of the finest automobiles in the world. The car was powered by a thumping 6.3 litre V8 engine delivering 250bhp that was capable of taking a car that weighed in excess of 2.5 tonne to well over 200 km/hr.
The car was an engineering marvel and its air suspension gave the car a ride that was smooth on just about every surface. The car also featured a very complex hydraulic system that powered the windows, seats, the sun roof and even an automatic close on the boot lid.
The car was produced in two main models being the 600 Grosser (short wheel base) and 600 Pullman (long wheel base). Interestingly the short wheel base cars were intended to by driven by the owners whereas the long wheel base cars were intended to be driven by chauffers.
Incredibly the Mercedes-Benz 600 series was in production for almost twenty years from 1963 through until 1981 during which time 2,677 cars were built. The breakdown of cars is:

These cars were very popular with royalty, world leaders, celebrities, movie stars, rock stars as well as the rich and famous. Today these cars, and particularly the Pullman, are highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors alike.

1966 MERCEDES-BENZ 600 Grosser

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale this absolutely magnificent 1963 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL.
The Fahrzeug-Daten (factory data card) and Produktions-Auftrag (factory production order) on file confirms that this factory right hand drive example was ordered new in New Zealand late 1962. It was in fact the 61st Mercedes-Benz ordered from New Zealand that year. The car left the factory on the 21st May 1963, which would make this one of the very last 190 SLs built.
The car was ordered in black (paint code 040) with a red interior (interior code 203) with single seats (option code 401). It was delivered with a roadster hard top (option code 413), US style front bumper with guards (option code 441), instruments in English and miles (option code 461), outside left and right rear view mirrors (option code 506) a Becker Brescia radio (option code 512), rear seats (option code 565), lights for left hand traffic (option code 613), export license plate (option code 621), whitewall tyres (option code 641), documentation in English (option code 681), a folding fabric soft top in grey (option code 736) and 10 litres of fuel (option code 317).
Documentation on file notes that the first owner was a Mr RA Stone from Auckland in New Zealand. At some stage the car found its way to Australia and into the ownership of Dr Frank Munro from Sydney, NSW. The car was sold to Mr Lachlan (Jim) Attrill from Sunshine, Victoria in March 1978. In May 1979 the car was registered in Victoria as ADP-112 and by August 1982 it was registered as BLE-701.
The third owner was a well known Melbourne based classic car enthusiast who acquired the car at the 1998 Shannons Grand Prix auction. At that time the car was still finished in its original colour of black.
After he acquired the car, it was taken off the road in preparation for a major restoration. The project commenced in earnest and he embarked on a nut and bolt rotisserie restoration on a mission to make the car as good as it could be.
The body was restored and painted by Peter Todd at Mentone Smash Repairs in Moorabbin. A major decision for the cars then owner was the colour. He chose to paint the car in Porsche Speed Yellow, which was a brave but fabulous choice. The engine block and head were rebuilt by Engine Action in Flemington. The engine was reassembled by Maurie Dodd.
The painted body shell was completed in March 2001 and the rebuild began.
The restoration was completed in September 2001and the car was then registered in Victoria as GEM-SL, just in time for the Mercedes-Benz ACT Concours dElegance held in Canberra. The car was incredibly well received and it won four trophies, including Best in Class, Runner Up Champion of Champions, Best Paint and Best Engine Bay.
The car was a multi concours winner at both the Victorian and ACT Mercedes-Benz Club Concours dElegance over the next four years.
The current owner acquired this car in circa 2009 and has used it sparingly throughout his ownership.
Incredibly this Mercedes-Benz 190 SL still presents as a freshly restored car, which is a testament to the quality of the restoration. Everything about this car is impeccable!
The first thing you notice is the colour. The yellow paint work is such a refreshing change from the ubiquitous white, silver or red. Whilst it looks stunning in the photos, it looks even better in the flesh! The paint work remains fresh and vibrant with an incredibly strong depth of colour. We struggled to find any blemishes in the paint. Even the hubcaps, which are prone to stone chips are in excellent condition. All of the external trim, including the chrome, lights and lenses are similarly well presented.
Completing the look is a factory hard top finished in pearl white. The soft top is black and in excellent unused condition.
The interior of the car is also beautifully presented. The red upholstery provides a perfect colour contrast to the yellow paintwork, particularly the dash. All of the instruments and controls, including the delicate trade mark Mercedes-Benz steering wheel present like new. Everything looks to be in working order.
Under the bonnet, the engine looks fresh and as though it was installed yesterday. Importantly, everything still looks to be correct.
It is likely that the boot has hardly seen the light of day and probably never carried any luggage. Like the rest of the car it is in exceptional condition. There is a spare wheel, jack and tool kit.
Even the underside of the car still presents like new!
Clearly this car has had little use since it was restored. It presents today like it has been stored in a glass case! Importantly, the current owner does regularly start the car and when the sun comes out just every now and then it gets some exercise.
On our recent test drive the car started easily from cold. There was a slight concern that this car may drive like a garage queen, but after a few very short miles that possibility was well and truly put to rest. The car drove superbly. The engine pulls strongly through the rev range and the gearbox is firm and precise. Importantly there are no rattles or squeaks. The more we drove it the better it went!

Mercedes wanted to build a sporting luxury car that still looked classical in the mould of the 300 SL, but it had to be affordable and the plan was to build such a car in far greater numbers than the exclusive 300 SLs. Enter the Type W121 or 190 SL as it became known in the mid 1950s. This model was an outstanding success and circa 25,000 cars were built over the next 8 years of production. The formula worked and Mercedes Benz carried it on with great success in the 1960s with the Type W113 230 SL/250 SL/280 SL models. This evolved into the Type R107/C107 280 SL(C)/350 SL(C)/380 SL(C)/450 SL(C) models built throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Mercedes-Benz marketed the 190 SL as . . . as sports car for all seasons.
To quote their website:
. . . Sporting elegance, safety and comfort with these qualities the 190 SL conquered a whole new circle of enthusiastic fans of dynamic driving. Mercedes-Benz unveiled the prototype of the 190 SL (W 121) at the International Motor Sports Show in New York in February 1954, alongside the production version of the 300 SL Gullwing. Although the two-seater roadster with folding soft top stirred passions, it was to undergo a further thorough revision by the Mercedes-Benz designers known at the time as stylists.
In March 1955, a full year after the New York premiere, the production version went on display at the Geneva Motor Show. Like its elder brother, the spectacular 300 SL Gullwing, the 190 SL rapidly became one of the most coveted dream cars of its day. Although less powerful than the 300 SL, it generated no less excitement and opened up the SL legend to a wider circle of customers. By 1963 sales had totalled 25,881 units.
And even long-distance drives were enjoyable thanks to the comfortable suspension. The handsome sports car for all occasions was particularly popular among female drivers, who appreciated not only the sporting elegance of its design, but also the open-air feeling that came as standard. With its easy-to-operate soft top and optionally available coupé hardtop, the 190 SL was the first SL to combine the possibility of open-top driving with absolute all-weather capability.

1963 MERCEDES-BENZ 190SL

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale this absolutely stunning 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT.
The documentation on file confirms this UK delivered, factory right hand drive example was ordered by Maranello Concessionaires Ltd in Egham By Pass (Surrey) on the 21st March 1972. This E Series Dino was completed and despatched from the Ferrari factory in Maranello on the 26th April 1972.
The car left the factory in the unique and stunning colour of Giallo Dino (paint code 20-Y-348 Salchi) with a Nero Plastica (black vinyl trim code 161) interior. The car was ordered with the optional electric windows.
Many people think Ferraris should be red, however, Dinos were delivered new in just about every colour of the rainbow! In fact, according Matthias Bartz Dino Compendium, Dinos were delivered in 52 colours! Interestingly, only 21% of the total production of the Dino 206 GT / 246 GT and 246 GTS were finished in Rosso Corsa.
Dinos carry colour exceptionally well and many were finished in different hues and its always refreshing to see one finished in one of the less obvious colour choices. Only 35 Dinos (246 GT & and 246 GTS) were delivered new in the unique and stunning colour of Giallo Dino and we have two of them, including this car, in this country. This colour looks absolutely beautiful in the photos, however, we think it is even more impressive in the flesh. It is elegant and sophisticated.
Maranello Concessionaires delivered the car to dealer Sidney Marcus Ltd on Dorset Square in London on 16th May 1972. Further documentation on file suggests the first owner of the car was Mr B Cassini Esq from Chertsey, Surrey. The car was first registered in the UK on the 16th August 1972.
The UK Vehicle Registration Documentation on file dated 11th May 1983, states the car had 4 former keepers since February 1976. That same document notes James Fitzgerald from Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire as the current owner and Pat Crawfords from Saltash, Cornwall as the previous owner. Crawfords acquired the car on 30th November 1981. He only owned the car for a short period before selling it to Fitzgerald on the 21st February 1983. At that time the car was registered as VXA 324L.
Fitzgerald sold the car to John Rossi from Greystanes, Sydney Australia on the 7th November 1984. It was subsequently imported into Australia on the 23rd December 1984, arriving on board the ship the Tolaga Bay.
The car was sparingly used during Rossis ownership and it was sold to Oldtimer Australia in July 2004. At that time the car was finished in Rosso Corsa and the odometer read 76,223 miles.
The car required recommissioning and it was then sold to the current owner in July 2005. At that time the odometer read 76,423 miles.
After having enjoyed his Dino for a number of years, the decision was made in 2012 to restore the car back to how it left the factory all those years ago. This included returning the car to its original colour of Giallo Dino.
The cosmetic restoration was entrusted to the very talented Steve Cahun from Concourse Restorations in Geelong, Victoria. The mechanicals were the responsibility of classic Ferrari specialist Marc Jones from Enzotech, based at Caboolture on Queenslands Sunshine Coast and the trim work given to Peter Blakemore from Blakemores Automotive Upholstery in Ninderry, also on Queenslands Sunshine Coast. The restoration was project managed by Oldtimer Australia.
Jones stripped the car and removed the engine as well as all other mechanicals and the body/rolling chassis was subsequently sent to Victoria. The body was removed from the chassis and stripped to bare metal for the necessary repairs. The chassis was placed on a jig and measured to ensure it remained correct to original specification. Once the metal work was completed the car was repainted. All the chrome and external trim was also refurbished and the car subsequently reassembled.
All the mechanicals, including the engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes and more were stripped, assessed and rebuilt.
This restoration was a major project and everything was either refurbished or replaced to ensure the car was restored to a very high standard.
The project was finally completed in 2020.
Since then, the car has been used occasionally and at time of photographing the odometer read 77,111 miles. One of the last invoices related to the restoration from 2019 notes an odometer reading of 76,805 miles.
This wonderful Dino made its first public appearance at the Geelong Revival Motoring Festival in 2023, taking home the Shannons Rolling Art award. Its second public appearance was at the 2024 Noosa Concours dElegance.
Given the cars limited use since it was restored, it is not surprising that it still presents like a fresh restoration.
This is obviously a car well known to us at Oldtimer Australia, however, we were like kids in a lolly shop when the truck arrived to our showroom to drop it off.
The paint is in excellent condition in both finish and presentation. On close inspection, the quality of the restoration is immediately evident. The paint has been applied to a very high standard, with a deep, even gloss and excellent clarity throughout. Out in the sun the pale yellow seems to glow across the cars sculpted curves, perfectly accentuating the flowing Pininfarina design.
All the bright work, badges and other external trim is also in excellent condition, complimenting the paintwork perfectly. The lights and all the lenses are all clean and in excellent condition.
All the glass on the car is most likely original and in good condition. There is a very small area in the left lower corner of the front windscreen that is showing signs of delamination. It is almost hidden by the rubber, but it is there.
Lift the rear lid and the engine bay presents every bit as impressively as the exterior. The compact mid mounted V6 engine sits proudly on display, its intricate mechanical details clean, crisp, and beautifully arranged. The restoration has been carried out to a very high standard, with all components either correctly refurbished or replaced as required. The cam covers and ancillaries are finished to an excellent standard, their surfaces sharp and well defined, while correct finishes and coatings have been faithfully maintained throughout.
Under the front lid the correct spare wheel is stowed, sitting snugly within its recess. The surrounding heavy duty plastic mouldings are often a weak point on a Dino and often let the presentation of a freshly restored car down. On this car everything is beautifully presented.
The Cromodora wheels are in excellent condition with no signs of any damage or kerb rash. They are shod with period correct Michelin XWX tyres, size 205/70VR14 on all four corners. The tyres are date stamped 5217 (week 52, 2017) and are still in very good condition. The Dino branded centre caps are also in excellent condition.
We have had the car on the hoist and it presents as well underneath as it does on top.
Inside the cabin is just spectacular. Blakemores work is world class and the interior of this Dino is just sublime. The seats are in excellent condition, they are comfortable, and provide ample support. The seating position in a Dino always takes a little bit of getting used to, but once you are it is quite comfortable. The door cards, centre console and the carpets are all similarly well presented. The dashboard is also in excellent condition and all the instruments are crisp and clean. Everything is as you would expect it to be in a freshly restored car.
Theres no doubt that the Ferrari Dino 246 GT is one of the most beautiful cars ever built, but they are also exhilarating to drive. From the moment you are seated behind the wheel, that view forward is framed by the front guards that rise into your eyeline. Starting a Dino is no different from any other carburetted car from the 1960s and 1970s. You turn the ignition on and allow the fuel pumps some time to provide the carburettors with sufficient fuel. You then pump the accelerator a few times before turning the key further to start the car. This Dino fires up easily and the 2,418cc V6 engine quickly settles into a smooth idle. Theres a subtle rasp in the exhaust note, layered with a faint Italian singing quality that hints at whats to come as revs rise.
Driving a Ferrari Dino 246 GT is best understood as a fully analogue conversation between driver, machine and the road light, mechanical, and intensely involved. It is certainly not the fastest car but that is not what a Dino is all about. The Dino doesnt overwhelm with power, rather it draws you in through balance, sound and feel, creating a driving experience that is as emotional as it is engaging.
Like most classic Ferraris, the more you drive a Dino and allow the engine and gearbox to warm up properly, the better they are to drive. This one is no exception and after half an hour behind the wheel once everything is warmed up the car drives superbly.
When you clear the traffic and find a nice open road you really do appreciate what an absolutely fabulous car this is to drive. The engine has plenty of power on tap and it responds instantly to the slightest movement of the throttle. The gear changes are smooth and precise. It is mechanical and deliberate, requiring care and precision, but rewarding that effort with a satisfying sense of connection every time a gear engages cleanly. The steering is beautifully direct, with just enough weight and feedback to let you read the surface beneath you. The car is very tight on the road, with no rattles or squeaks.
The current owner has thoroughly enjoyed his 20+ years of ownership of this Ferrari Dino 246 GT and the journey that it has taken him on, but he feels that the time right for it to move to a new home. He is simply not using the car and life is taking him in a different direction.
Dinos come and go, but freshly restored cars are hard to find and finding one in Giallo Dino is like bumping into a unicorn.

Background
Apple, Coca-Cola, McDonalds and Nike are brands recognisable the world over. So is Ferrari and interestingly the iconic Italian luxury sports car manufacturer was named The Worlds Strongest Brand in the 2019 Brand Finance Global 500 Report.
Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1939 out of Alfa Romeos race division as Auto Avio Costruzioni the company built its first car in 1940. The Second World War halted Ferraris dream, which was finally realised in 1947, when the first car bearing his name, the Ferrari 125S, was built. From that day on Ferrari race cars dominated the world over, winning race after race and many world championships in Formula One, sports car racing and endurance racing. Ferrari built exclusive sports cars for the road too, but in the early days, this was primarily to fund his motor racing!
The Cavallino Rampate or prancing horse was the symbol chosen by Ferrari and like the golden arches it is recognised by just about every man, woman and child on the planet!
The Ferrari road cars from the 1940s and early to mid-1950s were built in very small numbers and it was not until the introduction of the 250 series cars that production numbers increased. Almost 1,000 Ferrari 250 GTEs were built from 1959 1963. The 250 series also produced some of the most special Ferraris ever built, including the Ferrari 250LM, 250 SWB, 250 California Spider and of course the 250 GTO. The 250 series cars were superseded by the 275 series cars, the 330 series cars and later the 365 series cars. The nomenclature designated the cubic capacity of each cylinder. So a Ferrari 330 was powered by a 12 cylinder engine of 3967 cc capacity.
Ferraris iconic Dino was first shown to the world as a prototype at the 1965 Paris Motor Show. The car morphed into the 206 GT of which only 150 cars were built from 1967 to 1969. This car was built with an all alloy body and had a 1,987cc V6 engine. In 1969 the 246 GT was released, which whilst a similar looking car in many ways was actually quite different. The car sat 3 taller than its predecessor and the body was now built from steel. Mechanically the new car was powered by a 2,418cc V6 engine. Enzo was keen to tackle Porsche head on and to do this he needed to increase production. The Dino was a hit and incredibly 3,569 of these cars were built from 1969 to 1974, 2,295 246 GTs and 1,274 246 GTSs.
Concerned at how the world would accept his lower priced, affordable 6 cylinder sports car and concerned that a cheaper car may diminish the Ferrari brand, Enzo Ferrari decided the car would not carry the badge of the prancing horse. Rather it would simply be known as a Dino to also commemorate the life of his son who designed the 6 cylinder engine.
Today the world knows the Dino as a Ferrari, and a real one at that! These beautiful cars are adored by car people across the world and good ones are most sought after.

1972 FERRARI DINO 246 GT

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale an incredibly unique, extremely rare and highly collectible 2019 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake. This car is understood to be 1 of only 2 factory right hand drive cars delivered new to Australia.
Aston Martin and Zagato have collaborated on projects for more than 65 years, with their partnership dating back to 1960. The first product of this alliance was unveiled in October 1960 at the London Motor Show, when the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato made its public debut. Based on the DB4 GT, the car was significantly lightened and enhanced by Zagato. Although the original plan was to build 25 examples, only 19 were ultimately produced. Today, the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato is regarded as one of the most desirable and collectible cars ever made. Given there rarity, they very rarely come up for sale, however, in todays market their value would most likely exceed US$ 15,000,000.
Driven by the 1980s supercar boom and the strong demand for high end limited edition cars, the partnership was reformed resulting in the V8 Vantage Zagato (52 examples built) and V8 Volante Zagato (32 examples built). In 2003 Aston Martin introduced the DB7 Zagato (99 examples built) and the DB AR1 (99 examples built). 2011 saw the introduction of the V12 Vantage Zagato (65 examples built). There were also a handful of prototype cars built over the years.
In May 2016 at the Concorso dEleganza Villa dEste at Lake Como in Italy, Aston Martin introduced a new concept car which was going to be the first of a Zagato family line of cars, the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato. The car was very well received and went into production in 2017, with production limited to 99 examples.
On the 15 August 2017 in Carmel, CA, USA the second member of the family made its global debut, the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volante. At the same time, Aston Martin announced that . . . not only will the Vanquish Zagato Speedster enter production, but it will be joined by a spectacular Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake. This family of four Vanquish Zagato models will yield a total of 325 cars. Total production would be divided between 99 Coupes, 99 Volantes, 28 Speedsters and 99 Shooting Brakes.
Aston Martin stated in their press release dated August 17th 2017:
. . . The Speedster and Shooting Brake represent the two extremes of the Vanquish Zagato family.
The Shooting Brake is still a strict two-seater, but one conceived as an individual and exceptionally practical GT. The extended roof on the concept sketch bears the iconic Zagato double-bubble surfacing complete with glass inlays to let light flood into the cockpit. The sculptural roof culminates in a powered tailgate that opens onto a luxuriously trimmed rear cabin area. With dramatic herringbone carbon fibre facia with anodised bronze rotary controls, extensive Z motif quilting and the option of a fully aniline leather upholstery, the Shooting Brake is a fitting complement to the Coupe, Volante and Speedster.

Today, this incredible Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake presents essentially as a brand new car. This car is part of a significant Aston Martin collection and it has been kept in a climate controlled garage. At the time of photographing, the odometer read 1,330 km.

Background
Aston Martin has produced bespoke sports cars for over 100 years. The company began in 1913, when founders Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford realised their desire to build distinctive, high quality sports cars that were both exhilarating to drive and a beauty to behold. Martin regularly competed in hill climb races at Aston Clinton, and a simple combination of the name of the event and the driver gave birth to one of the most famous automotive marques. Whilst Aston Martin produced some wonderful cars in their early years, business was always a struggle and the company was severely disrupted during both World War I and II. The company went bankrupt on more than one occasion and has endured many different owners throughout its history.
David Brown acquired Aston Martin in February 1947 and the first car produced during his ownership was the Aston Martin 2 Litre Sports, later known as the DB1, which was built in extremely limited numbers from 1948 to 1950. This was succeeded by the Aston Martin DB2 in 1950, which featured a new double overhead cam straight six engine of 2.6 litre (2580 cc) capacity, and was a car that really put post war Aston Martin on the map. Some 411 cars were built from 1950 to 1953, of which circa 100 were the convertible or drop head coupes. Its successor, known as the DB2/4, was first shown at the London Motor Show in 1953 and production started soon thereafter. Initially the car had the same engine as its predecessor, however, it was enlarged to 2,922cc in April 1954. Compared to the DB2 the DB2/4 had an extended roof line with a larger rear window, a one piece curved windscreen and real bumper bars. The biggest difference between the two cars was inside the cabin where the successor had far more roomwith two small occasional rear seats. The DB2/4 sold well through until 1957. In total 764 DB2/4s were built which included 565 of the Mk Is and 199 of the Mk IIs. The biggest change for the Mk II was that the bodies were made in-house by the recently acquired Tickford Coachbuilding Works in Newport Pagnell, otherwise the differences between the Mk I and Mk II were subtle. The DB2/4 was available as a four seat fixed head coupe or two seat drop head coupe from the start of production with a two seat coupe introduced on the Mk II. The DB2/4 MkII was succeeded by the DB MkIII and 551 examples were built from 1957 through until 1959.
In 1958 Aston Martin introduced the successor to the DB2/4 series, the DB4. The DB4 remained in production till 1963 and a total of 1,204 were produced.
In 1963 Aston Martin introduced what was to become the most famous Aston Martin ever, the DB5. The DB5 became a legend when it appeared in the 1964 James Bond movie Goldfinger. The DB5 is considered to be the quintessential vehicle associated with the Bond character and it has reappeared in many subsequent Bond films.
Whilst visually similar to the Aston Martin DB4 MkV, the DB5 was a step up mechanically with most changes under the bonnet. The new car was powered by a 4.0 litre version of Aston Martins straight six engine fitted with triple SU carburettors as standard it was quoted as producing 282 bhp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Power was sent through a five speed manual gearbox (a three-speed automatic was also an option) to the rear wheels. It was the first time this engine was used by Aston Martin in a road car, having first seen service in the Lagonda Rapide (based on Astons DB4) and some of Aston Martins prototype race cars of that period.
The Aston Martin DB5 remained in production through until 1965 and only 1,059 examples were produced. This figure includes DB5, DB5 Vantage and DB5 Convertible or Volante.
In 2020, as part of their continuation program Aston Martin produced 25 new DB5 Goldfinger-themed cars at the factory in Newport Pagnell.
The David Brown era (1947 1972) was arguably Aston Martins finest with the company winning Le Mans in 1959 and the iconic early DB series cars of the 1950s paving the way for the legendary DB4, DB5 and DB6 models of the 1960s.
The 1970s saw the introduction of some other significant Aston Martins, being the V8 (which evolved from the DBS/DBS V8 that was first introduced in 1967) and the unique four door wedge shaped Lagonda. However, throughout the 1970s and 1980s Aston Martin struggled financially and ownership changed a few times.
The most significant change in ownership occurred in 1987, when the Ford Motor Company purchased a 75% stake in the company. This finally gave Aston Martin the financial muscle and security it needed.
By 1993 Ford had fully acquired the company and the game changing Aston Martin DB7 was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March of that year. The DB7 became the car which put Aston Martin back on the map. When superseded by the DB9 in late 2004, some 7,000 DB7s had been built over the ten years of production making this the most produced model in the companys history. The V8 Vantage was introduced in 2005 and flagship DBS in 2007.
Ford sold out to private equity in 2007, however, the brand continued to evolve and subsequent models include the V12 Vantage, One-77, Rapide, Vanquish, DB11 and Valkyrie.
Today, Aston Martin is recognised as an iconic British luxury and performance car brand, manufacturing sports cars, grand tourers, hypercars and SUVs. Aston Martin also heavily invested in motor racing, including F1.

2019 ASTON MARTIN VANQUISH ZAGATO SHOOTING BRAKE

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale a rare Australian delivered factory right hand drive 1971 Maserati Indy.
According to the Maserati Classiche documentation on file this car was originally finished in oro metallizzato (gold metallic), paint code 106Y54 with a white leather interior.
The car on offer has the 4,200cc engine mated to the desirable five speed manual gearbox. This car is one of the 13 Australian delivered cars and one of the only eight factory right hand drive cars built with non power assisted steering.
It was collected from the Maserati factory in Italy by its first owner, a Mr Percy Arena, from Sydney in NSW on the 19th April 1971. The dealer is noted as being Alec Mildren Pty Ltd.
Mr Arena enjoyed his Indy in Europe before importing it into Australia. The cars subsequent early history is not known, however, its next owner is understood to have been Mr Eddie Battestello from Warrnambool in Victoria.
It was in his ownership that the Recaro seats, which are still in the car today, were fitted.
The Indy was then sold circa 1980 to Mr Andy Fraser from Hamilton, Victoria who is well known in classic car circles in Australia. The next owner was a Mr Max Ormerod from Lismore, NSW, who acquired the car in October 1985. At this time the odometer read 69,478 miles.
It is fair to say that Ormerod was a fastidious owner and he kept a diary of the car detailing its history, including service records and work done. In July 1990 (at 75,200 miles) he had the car was repainted Alfa Red.
In September 2000 the car was purchased by Mrs Diane Orford as a present for her husband Colin, from Mick Arnold Classic Cars in Southport on the Gold Coast. At that time the car needed some work and it was parked up in storage for many years.
In late 2007 work commenced to recommission the car and get it into a road going state. Over the next 9 months the front suspension was completely rebuilt, the steering was rebuilt, the diff pinion seal was replaced, the brakes serviced, the cooling system overhauled and the car was serviced and generally sorted mechanically. The interior was also refreshed at this time. There is a roadworthy certificate on file dated 2nd September 2008 at which time the odometer was at 87,338 miles. The car was completed just in time for the annual Noosa Beach Classic Car Show which in 2008 was celebrating Maserati as the featured marque. This Maserati Indy was awarded a second place from the 18 Maseratis on display.
Throughout 18 years of ownership this Maserati Indy was treated by the Orfords as part of the family. Even though the car was sparingly used over the years, travelling a modest 2,000 miles in that time, it was fastidiously maintained regardless of cost. In early 2019, with the odometer showing 89,361miles, Orford decided the time was right for his treasured Maserati to pass on to its next custodian.
Oldtimer Australia sold the car to its current Brisbane based owner in March 2019. At the time the car presented well, though the paint showed some minor blemishes, most noticeable were some small humidity blisters on the nose and bonnet.
After acquiring this Maserati Indy, the current owner used the car for the next two years. The paint imperfections were slowly getting worse and this was the catalyst for him to repaint the car. He debated whether to keep the car red or repaint it in its original colour of oro metallizzato (gold metallic). Thankfully, he chose the latter and he engaged the services of highly respected restoration shop GT motors in Brisbane to do the work.
The project commenced in April 2021 and after stripping the body back to bare metal it was immediately apparent that this was not going to be a straight forward repaint. The job quickly turned into a full body restoration. There are about 500 photos on file detailing the work that was undertaken to prepare the body for the repaint. There was significant rust in the nose of the car as well as the floor, sills, doors, boot lid and just about everywhere else! All the corroded metal was removed and replaced with new metal where required.
Once all the body work was completed, the car was then prepared for painting. As they say colour maketh the car and this Maserati Indy now presents absolutely superbly in its original and STUNNING colour of oro metallizzato (gold metallic).
The front and rear bumpers as well as the wheel nuts and wheel centre caps were rechromed by Pacific Plating in Brisbane. A new windscreen was installed and Maseratis characteristic diamond stitched under bonnet insulation was replaced.
In October 2022 all the work was completed and the car was back on the road.
The end result is simply spectacular and the car is a credit to its owner as well as Frank Toaldo and his team at GT Motors.
Today the odometer on this car reads 91,142 miles. It has travelled perhaps 1,000 miles since it was repainted three years ago and as a result it still presents superbly.
The paint has retained its high gloss finish and strong depth of colour and one has to look hard to find any imperfections. There is one very small defect just in front of the left rear wheel arch. It is hard to see but it is there. The external trim is all in excellent condition.
The wheels are in excellent condition having all been repainted. They are shod with period correct Michilin XWX tyres, size 205VR14, which are date stamped 2317 (week 23, 2017). They are still in excellent condition.
Inside the cabin everything remains very fresh. The leather remains in excellent condition on the seats and door cards. We only noticed some marks on the drivers seat bolster caused by the seat belt. A good leather doctor can easily correct this.
The dashboard, instruments and controls are also in excellent condition. Everything looks to be in working order. The car has a fabulous Blaupunkt radio cassette fitted which is most likely original. The front seats, whilst not original to the car, are period correct and very comfortable. They provide ample support.
The car is very clean all around and the engine bay is no exception. The boot is similarly well presented.
The Maserati Indys were highly regarded as very comfortable grand tourers and with a quoted top speed of 250 km/hr, one could only image blasting from Rome to Paris back in the day at high speed and in style and comfort!
Whilst we couldnt get to the autostrade we could stretch this cars legs on Brisbanes M1. In summary, this car drives every bit as good as it looks.
As with all Maserati V8s of this period you need to prime the carburettors once the ignition key has been turned on. The fuel pump eventually slows and after three or four pumps on the throttle the engine bursts into life with a final turn of the key. The 4.2 litre V8 in this Indy sounds fabulous. The exhaust note is spot on building anticipation as the engine warms. On a warm Brisbane day it does not take too long for the car to reach operating temperature. You select first gear, release the firm but not heavy clutch and you are away. Within minutes it is obvious this Indy is mechanically sorted. The car pulls strongly and willingly through the rev range and the actual gear change is firm and precise. The ride of the car is exceptional; there are no rattles or squeaks and it handles particularly well. The brakes pull the car up swiftly and in a straight line. We like the fact that this car does not have power steering. It is a little heavy at parking speed but the feedback whilst actually drivingthe car is superb!
The current owner is getting to the pointy end of another classic Maserati project and space does not allow him to keep both cars. As such, he has made the difficult decision to part ways with this car and it is ready for its next owner to use and enjoy.
The big money has been spent on this car and its next owner will be able sleep at night knowing that cosmetically this car is better than new!
We think that Maserati Indys are under rated and they offer great value at approximately half the cost of a Ghibli and significantly less than its cross town rivals from Ferrari and Lamborghini.
Accompanying the car is an excellent history file which includes a plethora of invoices for the work completed over the years, photographs of the car from its cosmetic restoration, an original parts manual, a copy of an owners manuals, a jack kit and various new & used parts.

The story starts with Rodolfo Maserati, a railway engineer who was employed by the Italian monarchy and the father of seven sons who all had a passion for engine design and racing cars. The Maserati brothers all became involved in the automotive industry in some way or another, however, it was on the 1st of December 1914 that Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto Maserati officially opened Alfieri Maserati Workshop in Bologna, Italy.
Maserati chose the trident logo to adorn its cars. Its design was based on the Fountain of Neptune in Bolognas Piazza Maggiore. The colours chosen for the logo were also the colours of Bologna, red and blue.
The business was focused on repairing, servicing and preparing cars, however, the World War cut business short and it wasnt until 1926 that Maserati built its first car, the Tipo 26.
It was all about motorsport back then and in 1937 the Orsi family acquired ownership of Maserati which was in desperate need of financial backing to be able to survive. During the Orsi years Maserati grew from a boutique but very successful race car builder to one of the worlds leading manufacturers of hand-built sports and GT cars.
Maserati built its first road car in 1946 even though times were tough in post War northern Italy. The car was the Maserati A6 where A was for Alfieri and 6 for the number of cylinders. The initial reception of the car was positive and a production Maserati A6/1500 was then shown at the 1947 Geneva Motor Show.
This was a significant milestone in the Maserati legend and subsequent models included the A6G/2000, 3500 series cars, 5000GT, Mistral. Quattroporte, Mexico, Sebring and Ghibli. Maserati also continued to build very successful race cars that dominated tracks around the world including the 250F, 300S, 150S, 450S and the Birdcage.
Orsi sold to Citroen in 1968. At that time Maserati was already working on an 4 seater alternative for the 2 seater Ghibli. Both Ghia and Vignale showed their proposals in November 1968 at the Salone dellautomobile di Torino. Maserati preferred the Vignale design and the production model was officially launched at the Salone dAutomobile de Genève in March 1969. It was named Indy in honour of Maseratis two victories at the Indianapolis 500.
The Indy (AM116) was a great success for Maserati, in total 1,104 were produced over seven years of production which ended in 1975. It was offered initially with its 4.2 litre quad cam V8 and later with the 4.7 litre and 4.9 litre engines also. The car was available with either manual or automatic transmission.
Maserati anoraks will appreciate the Indy production data (provided by Maserati) that notes a breakdown of cars as: 4,200cc engine (440 cars), 4,700cc engine (364 cars) and 4,900cc engine (300 cars of which 200 cars had Citroen brakes). Of the 1,104 Maserati Indys built only 74 were right hand drive. There were only 13 Australian delivered, factory right hand drive Maserati Indys. Of these, 7 had the 4,200cc engine (5 had manual transmission / 2 had automatic) and 6 had the 4,700 engine (4 had manual transmission / 2 had automatic).

1971 MASERATI INDY 4.2 Manual

Oldtimer Australia delighted to offer for sale an extremely rare factory, right hand drive Maserati Kyalami. This particular car was built in the most desirable specification, being powered by Maseratis 4.9 litre engine mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. This car is one of only 10 examples ever produced in this configuration.
Maserati has confirmed this Kyalami was produced on 26th July 1979. It was delivered new into the UK and was sold through Modena Concessionaires Ltd in West Bromwich. The car was delivered in verde medio (light green) with a fungo (beige) interior. It was first registered on 23rd December 1982 and carried the plate BEA 71Y. The first owner is noted as Mr Michael Harris from London, UK.
The car had a few subsequent owners before it was acquired by Anthony Michaelson of Musical Fidelity fame from Wembley, UK in May 1988. The DVLA records on file confirm the car was repainted blue in his ownership. Michaelson enjoyed the car for five years, selling it in September 1993 at Coys auction.
In April 1999 the car was acquired by Troy de Leon from Warfield, UK. In his ownership a significant amount of work was done to the car. An invoice on file from Rossi Engineering in Sunbury-on-Thames dated 25th April 2000 confirms the engine was removed from the car and rebuilt, a new exhaust system was fitted, the bumpers were repainted, new front springs were fitted and the AC was recharged. The invoice noted the odometer showing 87,547 km at the time.
In June 2001, with the odometer reading 93,866 km, the gearbox was rebuilt by J.W.F. Motors in Wokingham, UK.
In September 2001 the car was repainted in its current colour of rame metalic by Evans Auto Repair Services in Warfield, UK. The invoice confirms this was a major project. Necessary rust repairs were completed, which involved new metal work as required. Under seal was applied to both sills, all the wheel arches, the front wings, the front apron, the rear wings, the inner arches, the arch guards and under the spare tyre bay.
In May 2004 the car was sold to Rupert Wilkes from Wisbech, UK. There is an MOT test certificate on file dated 9th March 2004 and at that time the mileage was noted as 99,201 km. Wilkes used the car sparingly throughout his ownership, as confirmed by the subsequent MOT test certificates and the Statutory Off Road Notifications (SORN) on file. An MOT certificate dated 8th February 2007 notes the mileage as 99,932 km, and one dated 22nd December 2009 notes the mileage as 99,959 km.
The current Melbourne based owner acquired the car in May 2018 and at that time the odometer showed 807 km (100,807 km). He initially kept the car in the UK before eventually importing it into Australia in 2021. There is an import approval on file for the car.
Before the car was shipped to Australia the clutch and spigot bearing were replaced, the carburettors were stripped, cleaned and rebuilt, the fuel tanks were removed and cleaned. The car was also serviced and all the fluids were changed. All that work was completed in April 2021.
After the car arrived in Australia a problem with the AC compressor was identified and in May 2023 the car was sent to Maranello Purscang Motors in Brunswick, Victoria to address this issue. A new A/C compressor was sourced and fitted. Some other minor issues were also addressed and the car was issued a roadworthy and subsequently registered in Victoria.
Shortly thereafter a knock in the engine became audible. After much deliberation with the team at Marnello Pur Sang it was decided that the engine needed to be stripped to diagnose the problem. The end result was a full engine rebuild with new pistons, bearings and other parts as required.
Today the odometer reads 03,536 km (103,536 km).
We love the understated, yet classical look of the Maserati Kyalami. We think the colour choice of rame metallic is absolutely perfect for this car. This period colour emphasis the lines on the car and gives it quite an elegant appearance. It also contrasts well with the beige interior.
Even though this car was repainted some 20 years ago, the paint work has held up well and it presents today with a strong depth of colour and nice gloss finish. On closer inspection, we noticed a few small imperfections on the car. Most noticeably, there is a small scratch on the right rear guard, a small a chip on the drivers side mirror and a small chip on the lower part of the drivers door. There are also a few small chips on the edge of the drivers door. The car looks stunning in the photos, but even better in the flesh!
All the external trim is similarly well presented. The bright work on the car is minimalistic, but a feature and it is in good condition. The badges are in good condition with only the slightest sign of some wear around the edges of the Maserati badge on the bonnet. The glass is all in good condition and the same can be said for the lenses both on the headlights and the tail lights. The bumpers on these cars are often cracked and show with minor damage, but on this car they present well.
The wheels are generally in good condition, though if you look closely there are a few small bubbles under the paint and there is a small chip on the edge of the left front wheel. They are shod with as new Michelin 205/70 VR15 XWX tyres which are date stamped 1621 (week 16, 2021).
Open the sweeping door and you are welcomed by a very elegant, functional, yet very Italian interior. First impressions are good. The interior appears to be original and overall it is in very good condition. The leather seats present well, are firm and provide ample support. The seats show some patina, but there are no cracks or tears in the leather. A good leather treatment could easily bring them up a level. The rear seats appear to have been rarely used, if at all and are still in excellent condition. The dashboard in a Kyalami is a real feature and it presents well. The dashboard is covered in Alcantara and that is not an easy material to keep clean. In this car it presents well and there is no discolouration except for a small area on the right bottom of the dashboard. All the instruments are clean and present well. They all appear to be in good working order.
As we prepare for our test drive, we settle in behind the Momo leather steering wheel. Finding a comfortable driving position is surprisingly easy. The seats are exceptionally comfortable, visibility is excellent and both the steering wheel and all controls fall naturally to hand.
It is with great anticipation we insert the key into the ignition to fire up the big V8. After allowing the fuel pump enough time to fill the carburetors you turn the key further to start the car. The engine cranks over easily and it fires up quickly with a bark. There is no need to use the throttle, the engine just catches and it immediately settles into a smooth idle. The engine sounds absolutely fantastic. It is kind of an Italian muscle car!
Whilst you could listen to the Maserati symphony all day, this car needs to be driven. Out on the wide open road is where it really belongs. This car is really a wolf in sheeps clothing. Whilst it is happy to cruise along in traffic, it relishes some open road with some open throttle! It is then that Maseratis 4.9 litre V8 comes to life . . . that Maserati sound is just something. One needs to remember it roots go back to the car of kings the 5000GT and the mighty 450S race cars. The engine in this car pulls like a train. It feels strong and the power delivery is surprisingly smooth. Whilst a Kyalami with an automatic gearbox is a nice car to drive, we just love the 5 speed manual gearbox and in this car it is very easy to use. The clutch is reasonably light, but with a good feel and the gear changes are smooth both up and down the box. This car handles well and the suspension feels firm, yet the ride is incredibly smooth and it easily absorbs any bumps in the road.
All too soon our test drive comes to an end. A Maserati Kyalami is not a small car, yet it is easy to drive and very comfortable.
It is immediately obvious that the target market for this car was the successful business man or woman back in the day. They would have appreciated the finer things in life, but wanted a car that offered the sophistication and class of a sports car combined with the refinement and practicality of a luxury saloon car.
This Maserati Kyalami is just a fabulous car that we are genuinely excited to offer for sale. The overall condition and presentation of this car is consistent with a car has been cherished by its previous owners. The car offers incredibly good value for money and it is reluctantly offered for sale by its current owner. It is ready for its next custodian to use and enjoy.

Maserati built some fabulous cars during Citroens ownership (including the Indy, Bora, Merak and Khamsin), however, times were tough and the company struggled financially. Citroen placed Maserati into liquidation in May 1975 and it was ultimately saved by the Italian government and Alejandro de Tomaso took control shortly thereafter. Under de Tomasos watch the first new Maserati was the Kyalami, so named after the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in South Africa where a Maserati powered Cooper T81 had won the 1967 South African Grand Prix. The Kyalami was based on the De Tomaso Longchamp. Pietro Frua was commissioned to re-style the car and give it that traditional Maserati look and feel. The Kyalami was seen as a true successor to the Mexico and production spanned 8 years from 1976 through until 1983. Maserati production numbers are often a point of contention, however, it is understood that only 201 Kyalamis were built. Of these, surprisingly 44 were factory right handdrive. 30 of the right hand drive cars were destined for the UK market, 7 for the Australian market, 4 for the South African market and 3 for Hong Kong. Of the 44 right hand drive cars, 21 were fitted with the 4.9 engine, of which 10 were fitted with a manual gearbox and 11 with an automatic gearbox.
