Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale this Australian delivered, factory right hand drive 1986 Lamborghini Jalpa.
According to the Lamborghini Registry this car was completed on the 24th November 1986 for Australian importer A.A. de Fina. The car was originally rosso (red paint code 215157) with a panna (cream) interior, which is how the car is presented today. The Australian compliance plate is dated 1/87.
The early history of this car is not definitively known, however, it is understood to have come from long term Sydney ownership. The car was then sold to another Sydney owner in circa 2005 before being sold by Oldtimer Australia to the Gosford Car Museum in July 2015. At that time the odometer read 45,005 km.
The current owner acquired the car from the Gosford Car Museum in early 2018. At that time the car presented well cosmetically, but it was a little tired.
In July 2018 Melbourne based classic Lamborghini specialist, Sports and Classic Car Services completed a major mechanical refresh of the car. They rebuilt the engine, which included reconditioning the cylinder heads and engine ancillaries, rebuilt the gearbox, installed new rear shock absorbers, replaced the brake hoses and installed new rear wheel bearings. At the same time a new Quicksilver exhaust system was installed. In total, $43,000 was spent on the car to bring it up to its current condition. At that time the odometer read 45,054 km.
In May 2020 Sports and Classic Car Services performed an annual service and safety check and at that time the odometer read 45,819 km. The next service was performed in June 2022 and at that time the odometer read 47,242 km.
The current owner has used the car sporadically in the last eighteen months and today the odometer reads 47,630km.
First impressions of this car are good, really good! Overall, it presents well. It is understood the car was repainted back in 2005 shortly after it changed hands. The rosso paint has retained a high gloss and a strong dept of colour. However, if you look closely you will notice some small paint imperfections. The most noticeable one is on the edge of the B pillar on the drivers side and there are some small paint bubbles on the rear bumper. The Lamborghini badge on the front is showing its age and is the first thing we would replace! The Lamborghini and Jalpa badges on the rear of the car are in good condition. All the glass presents well with no cracks or delamination evident. The targa top is in very good condition.
The original and quite unique Route Oz wheels present well. There is some very minor curb rash visible, but nothing too noticeable. The front wheels are shod with Pirelli Cinturato P7 tyres, size 205/55 R16. These are date stamped 5117 (week 51, 2017). The rear wheels are shod with Hankook Ventus RS4 tyres, size 225/50 R16. These are date stamped 1221 (week 12, 2021). Both the front and rear tyres are still in good condition.
Open the door and you are welcomed by a sharp and very good looking interior. The interior was refreshed less than twelve months ago and as a result the seats present well and are in very good condition with no rips, tears or cracks evident. They are surprisingly comfortable and provide ample support. The matching door cards are also in very good condition. The seats and door cards are both trimmed with red piping, which is so eighties and as the car was finished new. The matching carpets are also in very good condition with no excessive wear evident.
The dash presents well and the top has not been affected by the harsh Australian sun. There are no cracks evident nor is there any discoloration. Overall the instruments and controls present well and appear to be in good working order. A known problem with Italian cars from this period is that the needles on the speedo and the tacho have a tendency to warp. Both instruments on this car are slightly warped, but both are working and look to read correctly. The metal gear shifter gate is showing its age and is something we would have cleaned up and polished. The Nardi steering wheel is most likely original and generally in good condition, though there are a few cracks appearing in the leather. A good leather doctor would attend to this easily.
Under the front bonnet everything is very original. Unfortunately, the space saver spare wheel is missing.
The engine bay presents well and behind it, underneath the rear spoiler, youll find the boot, which whilst relatively small is bigger than it looks! There is plenty of room for a few overnight bags. The boot retains its original carpet and is in quite good condition.
Shortly after the car arrived at our showroom, we found a break in the inclement Brisbane weather and were able to get it out for a quick test drive and photo shoot. The car starts easily, even from cold. The Quicksilver exhaust system has a fabulous note to it without being too noisy. Out on the road the car drives easily and the more you drive it the more you like it! The engine has loads of power and the gear changes are smooth, both up and down the box. The steering feels precise and is not too heavy. We did notice the AC was not working and upon further investigation we discovered that the hoses have been disconnected and the compressor is missing.
Whilst the car runs and drives well, it would benefit from a tune and it probably needs to used and enjoyed more regularly.
In 2019 Motortrend wrote an interesting article about the Jalpa called Driving the Lamborghini Jalpa: A Classic Supercar Worth Remembering. In the article the Jalpa is described as . . . an intriguing car with a beguiling personality far different from the bigger, better-known Lamborghinis. In the article automotive historian Massimo Delbo describes the Jalpa as . . . simply and enigmatically: If you know, you know. Unfortunately, the Jalpa was introduced at the wrong time, America was pulling out of a recession and people favoured its bigger brother the Countach or even Ferraris entry level car, the 328. As far as the nouveau riche were concerned, there was only one Lamborghini worth considering. Motortrend questions this; Was their belief correct? The Jalpa is arguably the better sports car, a ballerina compared to the brutish Countach. The author, after his test drive, states: Given the choice between a Countach and a Jalpa a guy can dream, right? I know which I would pick. A week ago, my answerwould have been different, but now I know and hopefully you do, too.
With only 410 examples ever made and approximately 35 in right hand drive, the Jalpa is indeed a very rare car.
Here is a unique opportunity to own an Australian delivered, factory right hand drive example and become part of the small group of people who can experience first hand how good and how much fun this junior super car is to own and drive.
This car wont win a concours, but it is a really nice example that presents and drives well. It can be used as is or easily taken to the next level should one desire to do so.

Background:
The Lamborghini story is fascinating in itself, but for the company to have survived all these years and indeed celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2013 is quite amazing. Ferruccio Lamborghini was an entrepreneur, a very successful businessman and a lover of the finer things in life, including sports cars. He was fortunate enough to own some wonderful cars including Ferraris however, he found fault with them all. According to the legend following a meeting with Enzo Ferrari to discuss some of the short comings of his cars Enzo dismissed Ferruccio and he subsequently decided that he could build a better car.
Not long after, in May 1963, Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini SPA was established and the small town of SantAgata Bolognese, located between Modena and Bologna, was chosen as the location to build the factory. Born under the Zodiac sign Taurus Lamborghini chose the raging bull as the emblem for his sports cars.
Lamborghini knew what he wanted and he put together a highly skilled team. His first car the 350 GTV was shown at the Turin Motor Show in October 1963. This car received mixed reviews; however, Lamborghini was not deterred and made a number of improvements and design changes to the original concept. The first Lamborghini production car the 350 GT left the factory in mid-1964.
The 350 GT evolved into the 400 GT 2+2 and later the Islero. In parallel to building these classic front engine V12 GT cars Lamborghini wanted to build a super car, enter the Miura first shown as a rolling chassis in 1965, and also a GT car that could comfortably seat four people, enter the Espada in 1968. The mid to late sixties were good times for Lamborghini and his cars were revered the world over.
In 1970 the Islero was replaced by the Jarama. Lamborghini also wanted to enter the junior supercar market and introduced the Urraco or little bull, named for the fighting bull which killed the toreador Manoleten, at the 1970 Turin Motor Show. The Urraco attracted huge interest from the motoring world and Bertones classic wedge shape received critical acclaim at the time.
It wasnt until some two years later, in 1972, that the first production cars rolled off the Sant Agata production line. Lamborghini hoped to build the Urraco in big numbers, however, this never eventuated and only 520 of the P250s were built up until 1975 when the P300 was released. The world economy changed quickly and the early 1970s were a tough time for Lamborghini. Additionally, the Urraco had some teething problems early on and the car unfortunately developed a reputation as unreliable. This was perhaps unfair as once Lamborghini ironed out the bugs the car was in fact a little gem and properly sorted was a genuine threat to Ferraris 308, Maseratis Merak and the Porsche 911 of the day. The Urraco P300 was indeed a fabulous little car and in Sports Car World magazine July September 1976 Mel Nichols wrote: . . . I was not hard pressed to conclude that the Urraco 3-litre is the most enjoyable car I have ever driven. In the October 1978 issue of Car Magazine Nichols pits the Lamborghini Urracoagainst a Ferrari 308 GTB and a Maserati Merak SS. The article is compelling reading and Nichols picks the Urraco as his favourite. Only 205 Urraco P300s were built. Lamborghini also built 66 Urraco P200s (with a 2 litre V8 engine) specifically for the Italian market.
The Lamborghini Silhouette was a further development of the Urraco and it was first shown at the 1976 Geneva Motor Show. The Silhouette was a genuine 2 seater and the 2+2 seating of the Urraco was removed to allow space behind the seats to store the targa top. The Silhouette is one of the rarest Lamborghinis with only 54 cars built, of which only ten were factory right hand drive.
Lamborghinis last iteration of their V8 engined junior supercar was the Jalpa (pronounced YAWL-pa), named after another breed of fighting bull. The Jalpa was introduced at the 1981 Geneva show and 410 examples were built spanning seven years from 1982 through to 1988. Of these it is understood that only 35 left the factory as right hand drive and perhaps there are 10 in Australia.

1986 LAMBORGHINI JALPA

Oldtimer Australia delighted to offer for sale this very rare and highly desirable Australian delivered 1936 AC 16/80 Sports Tourer.
It is understood that AC built only 42 16/80s to special order from 1935 to 1939.
These cars were purchased in period by wealthy customers who were more often than not weekend racers.
This particular car was delivered new to its first owner Richard Wilkinson from South Yarra in Melbourne. The car was originally black in colour and it was first registered on the 21st November 1936. Wilkinson entered the car in the 1936 South Australian Centenary Grand Prix, retrospectively referred to as the 1937 Australian Grand Prix (even though run in 1936!). The event was held at Victor Harbour in South Australia on the 26th December 1936.
Wilkinson, who lost a leg in a motor racing accident at the 1932 Australian Grand Prix was intending to drive the car, but ended up handing the reins to George Martin. Interestingly, Martin is noted in the event catalogue as driving a supercharged Alfa Romeo, but that car was withdrawn with a mechanical issue.
Racing with number 26, the AC driven by Martin was understood to have diced for the lead for the majority of the race before spinning off the track and ultimately finishing twelfth.
Wilkinson didnt keep the AC for long and it is noted as being advertised by Select Used Cars in Melbourne in December 1937. The car passed through a number of owners over the forty years before being acquired by well known classic car enthusiast Geoff Dowdle.
Dowdle acquired the car in May 1977 and restored the car over a 16 year period.
The current owner acquired the car some 24 years ago. Back in 2003 the engine was rebuilt by the Delage Garage in Cremorne, Melbourne. There are detailed receipts and a number of photographs on file of the work undertaken.
This car has a huge history file with documented ownership from new. Dowdle restored the car to a very high standard with a number of sympathetic upgrades. The upgrades included fitting hydraulic brakes on all four wheels, 16 wheels running 205R16 tyres (for safety) in lieu of the original 19 wheels running 4.75 5.00 19 tyres, an upgraded steering box from a Jaguar MkV, upgraded rear axle and differential as well as other improvements. It is also understood that when the body was restored the original timber frame was replaced with a steel frame.
Today this fabulous AC 16/80 Sports Tourer presents resplendently. The dark blue paint work is in very good condition, with some very minor blemishes here and there. The trademark tall AC grill and greyhound of the road mascot are a real feature. These, along with the headlights and horns are all in very good condition. The painted wire wheels with chromed AC embossed wheel spinners are in similarly good condition and subtly compliment the dark blue paint.
The interior is simplistic but very businesslike. The polished aluminium dash fascia looks fabulous and houses a well laid out cluster of instruments and switches. The upholstery and carpets are all in good condition, showing light patina.
Under the bonnet everything is neat, clean and tidy. ACs 1,991cc six cylinder engine along with ancillaries takes up most of the space. There is also a timber covered compartment that sits against the firewall which houses the battery and provides two storage compartments for tools.
The devil is in the detail and on this car you will find AC logos everywhere. In addition to the wheel spinners, they are on the pedals (like the early Alfa Romeos), the gear lever and on different parts of the engine.
Once you fire the car up the cars competition pedigree is obvious. The engine and exhaust note are fabulous. Our recent test drive around inner suburban Melbourne streets was a far cry from how George Martin would have been driving the car between the seaside towns of Port Elliot and Victor Harbor back on the 26th December 1936. But, we did manage to find a few quiet streets where the car could stretch its legs. The engine pulled strongly through the rev range and the gear changes up and down the box were relatively smooth. The car felt surprisingly firm on the road and the hydraulic brakes give the car far better stopping power than you would expect.
The documentation on file includes a list of all AC 16-80s built and it confirms that this car retains its original matching numbers engine.
Accompanying this car is an exceptional history file which includes some fabulous period photos of the car at various events, an owners manual, the original 19 wheels and drums brakes as well as many spare parts.
It is noteworthy that a 1937 AC 16/80 Sports Tourer was exhibited in the European Classic Sport Class at the 2024 Pebble Beach Concours dElegance. A very similar car to the example we have on offer was exhibited in the British Prewar Sports Late class at the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours dElegance.

Background:
The AC story is a fascinating one. In 1903 a 20hp four cylinder motor vehicle, known as a Weller, was built. It was the brainchild of John Weller, a talented engineer and designer, and John Portwine, a butcher and talented businessman who financed the venture. The Weller never made it into production and the duo decided to focus their attention on building a cheap and reliable three wheeled commercial vehicle. The Auto-Carrier as it was known was powered by a single cylinder 631cc engine, it had chain drive from the engine to the single rear wheel and it had tiller steering. The Auto-Carrier proved to be more efficient than the traditional horse and cart of the day and the vehicle was a resounding success.
In 1907 a passenger version of the Auto-Carrier was built and it was called the Sociable. The Company was renamed Auto Carriers Limited in 1911 and had to relocate to new bigger facilities in Thames Ditton in Surrey. The company went from strength to strength and whilst the First World War temporarily derailed the car business it was post war that really defined AC. Weller designed a six cylinder alloy overhead cam engine that with ongoing development remained in production from 1919 to 1963.
AC continued to grow and it built some wonderful cars throughout the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. During this time ACs cars achieved a number of significant time and distance records as well as race results.
AC built around 850 cars throughout the 1920s, with the 16/40, 16/56 and 16/66 models offered at that time. Their cars evolved into the 1930s, spawning the 16/60, 16/70, 16/80 and 16/90 models. It is understood that AC built just over 600 cars in that time.
Perhaps ACs most significant prewar model was the AC 16/80. It is understood that AC built only 42 16/80s to special order from 1935 to 1939. Of these 42 cars, 28 were fitted with the slab tank body with the squared off back and two spare wheels attached to the fuel tank. The other 14 cars were fitted with a sloping tail body. The AC 16-80 was built on a relatively short chassis of 8 10 designed for competition use. They are light and nimble to drive and in period always very competitive in their class in motorsports events.
Subsequent AC models that were introduced post the Second World War were the AC 2.0 Litre, AC Petiti and the John Tojeiro designed AC Ace that as first introduced in 1953. Powered by ACs proven two litre overhead cam straight-six engine now good for 100 hp, this elegant aluminium bodied two seat sports racing car proved to be a huge success. It was soon joined by a coupe or hard top version called the Aceca and later a 2+2 version called the Greyhound. By the mid 1950s the AC power plant was seen as inadequate and by 1956 AC offered the car with the option of Bristols two litre six cylinder engine with triple carburettors giving significantly improved performance. In the early 1960s American automotive icon Carroll Shelby needed a new platform to race and approached AC with the idea to install a big American V8 engine in their AC Ace. Ford came to the party and agreed to supply their Windsor V8 engines for the car. The rest, as they say, is history and the Shelby Cobra went on to become a legend.

1936 AC 16/80 Sports Tourer

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale this stunning and as new Australian delivered 2005 Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster. This factory right hand drive example with an E-Gear transmission was delivered new into Perth, Western Australia through Lamborghini dealer Barbagallo on the 30th June 2005.
As confirmed by the service book, the first owner used his Murcielago sparingly. The car received its first service in October 2013, at which time the odometer read 3,230 km. Through until 2018 the car was serviced annually, even though the car only travelled some 100 km between service intervals. In October 2018 the odometer read 3,600 km. The car was then serviced in October 2020 @ 4,610 km, then in November 2021 @ 4,875 km and then in January 2023 @ 5,180 km.
The current Brisbane based owner acquired the car on the 23rd of January 2023 through Barbagallo. At that time he was told this was a one owner car and at that time the odometer read 5,175 kilometres.
People often refer to the Murcielago as the last of the old school Lamborghinis and when you spend some time with the car you will understand why. Yes, it is a relatively modern car, but that Lamborghini DNA is there. And of course it has the trademark scissor doors made famous with the Countach and later the Diablo.
The Murcielago retains that traditional Lamborghini design philosophy which made the marque famous. It is all about the extremity of the design and of course the look and feel of the car. As a result it is wild and perhaps in some areas a bit ridiculous. Whilst functionality comes second, there is no doubt that the Audi influence has made the Murcielago a more usable car than its predecessors.
Walking up to this car you cannot help but be impressed with its presence. From a few meters away the colour looks like just a normal yellow, however, when you get closer you quickly realise it is not. The colour is called Giallo Orion (paint code PPG0056) and it is a pearl yellow which as you get closer actually shows an almost green tint reflecting in the paint. This STUNNING colour was first made available by Lamborghini on the Murcielago.
Given the cars mileage, it is not surprising that the paintwork presents as new. It has been wrapped in a protective film and the only defect we have noticed is a very small bubble at the bottom of the drivers mirror. This blemish is to the protective film and the paint underneath has not been damaged.
When you walk around the car you start noticing more and more detail. In typical Lamborghini fashion there are a lot of sharp, angled shapes to be found on the car. From the front indicators to the headlights, the air intakes on the front bumper, the air vents on the engine cover and even in the wheels. A very unique feature on the car are the air vents or bat wings on either side of the engine cover which open automatically if the engine detects it needs more air to stay cool. Of course, you cannot miss the trademark black and gold Lamborghini badge on the front of the car.
We love the original Hercules wheels on the car. They are a real piece of art and are in excellent condition with no sign of any curb rash or any damage. The black wheel centres with the gold Lamborghini logo are also in perfect condition. The wheels are shod with Pirelli PZero Rosso tyres, size 245/35 ZR18 at the front and 335/30 ZR18 at the rear. The front tyres are date stamped 1919 (week 19, 2019) and the rear tyres are date stamped 4219 (week 42, 2019). These tyres are still in excellent condition with the car having travelled only c1,500 km since they were fitted.
To open the scissors doors, you press on the right side of the recessed handle on the top of the door. That will lift the left side of the handle and you can then pull it to open the door. There is nothing more Lamborghini than opening those scissor doors. The interior of this car is finished in nero (black) which provides a perfect colour contrast to the yellow exterior. The seats have yellow stitching to complete the look. Everything inside the cabin is in very good condition as you would expect from a car with such low mileage. The only small imperfection we noticed are some small scratches around the radio. Importantly all the switches are in very good condition and they are not sticky, a known issue with Italian cars from this period.
The Murcielago Roadster is a top down car, but if required the top can be assembled and fitted relatively easily. As they say practice makes perfect and the whole process is perhaps easier than its reputation suggests. The top is in perfect condition.
With the top off it is very easy to get into the car and it does not take long for you to find that comfortable seating position. The seat can be adjusted in multiple ways and you can also adjust the steering wheel.
Once you are comfortable behind the wheel you will start noticing some of the quirks when it comes to the positioning of things you usually find in the cabin.
First there are the seatbelts. Whilst most cars have them mounted on the B-pillar, the Murcielago retains the same set up as the Diablo where they are mounted in the centre of the car between the seats. The air conditioning controls are hidden behind a panel which looks like it is just part of the dashboard above the stereo. The cigarette lighter, which on most cars would be fitted somewhere on the centre console is almost hidden behind the steering wheel. All the options for driving the car, including mode selection, traction control etc are on the centre console. The exception is the button to select reverse gear, which is located on the right hand side of the steering wheel. These idiosyncrasies are all part of the Lamborghini Murcielago ownership experience.
The stereo in this car has been upgraded to a Pioneer system which includes a reverse camera. This is a very useful and practical improvement.
The most important part of the car is located exactly in the right spot. And that is of course the engine, which sits right behind you. The power plant is Lamborghinis naturally aspirated 6.2 litre V12 engine which traces its roots back to the 350 GT from 1964.
It was with great anticipation that we fired up the engine in this fire breathing monster. At the turn of the key the big V12 fired up easily and very quickly settled into a smooth idle. We gently pull on the right lever behind the steering wheel to select first gear and get ready to take the car out on the road for a quick test drive. The gear selection is smooth and the accelerator pedal has a good feel which allows you to control the speed of the car easily. The car is fitted with a lift system at the front, which will operate when the car is travelling below 70km/h. This makes it easier to get out of drive ways and go over speed bumps whilst looking after your front spoiler.
Once out on the road this car is surprisingly comfortable and very easy to drive. The gear changes are smooth and quick which actually refines the driving experience. That said, the Lamborghini V12 behind your head challenges your decision making about right and wrong. This car will accelerate to warp speed and beyond at the blink of an eye. The big vented disc brakes pull the car up quickly and in a straight line when needed. In summary, this car performed exactly as it should.
Needless to say we got plenty of thumbs up on our test drive. Back in our showroom we get out of the car with a big smile on our face. It was quite a surreal moment . . . what a car! This Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster is just a fabulous car to drive and it is a true modern classic.
Accompanying the car is the original soft top, a toolkit which has never been used, a Lamborghini branded Ctek battery charger and a original Lamborghini pouch which contains the owners manual and a fully stamped service book.
Of the 899 Lamborghini Murcielago Roadsters built only a relatively small number were factory right hand drive, making this a very rare car. Of these, there wouldnt be many as new examples with 5,220 km on the clock!

The first model was known as the P400, followed by the P400S introduced in 1969 and the P400SV which was introduced in 1971. Even though the Miura was a great success it was starting to show its age.
Under the project name LP112, chief engineer Paolo Stanzani and his staff began working on a successor to the Miura in 1970. For this project, he collaborated with test driver Bob Wallace, assistant engineer Massimo Parenti and designer Marcello Gandini of Bertone.
Ferruccio Lamborghini had a preference for Grand Tourers, but he recognized there was a real market for uncompromising sports cars. He gave the development team his approval to push the boundaries even further than what they had done while designing the Miura.
The first prototype, designated LP500, was first shown to the world at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show. The prototype Countach shocked the world. Surely just another show car they said. The Miura was a tough act to follow and Bertones design team pushed the boundaries to create what is today one of the most recognisable shapes on the planet! The word Countach is a slang exclamation of astonishment in Piedmontese, a northern Italian dialect. This expletive was uttered when one of Bertones design team members was building a scale model of the car . . . and it stuck! The Countach became reality when the first production car rolled off the Sant Agata production line in 1974.
The original LP400 was replaced by the LP400S in 1978. The S model had the wide wheel arches and uprated suspension to accommodate the massive Pirelli P7 tyres / Campagnolo wheel rims along with other subtle improvements. In 1982 the LP500S (also referred to as the LP5000S) was introduced. The major change here was the increased engine capacity from 3929 cc to 4754cc. The Countach continued to evolve and in the 1985 the LP5000 Quattrovalvole (or QV) was introduced. With the QV the engine was improved again, bored and stroked to 5.2 litres (5,167 cc) and given four valves per cylinder (quattrovalvole in Italian). The final variant of the Countach, the 25th Anniversary, was released in 1988.
What an impossible act to follow, but Lamborghini was up for the challenge and development of the successor to the Countach, code named Project 132, commenced in the mid 1985 whilst the company was under the control of the Mimram brothers. It was a difficult time for Lamborghini and whilst the sale to Chrysler in 1987 pushed the project backwards because the bosses in Detroit were not happy with Marcello Gandinis proposed design, the end result was no doubt worth the wait. The Diablo (or Devil) is an illustrious breed of Spanish fighting bull and it was the name given to Lamborghinis new supercar. It was first shown (formally) at the Chicago Auto Show in January 1990 and with a claimed top speed of 202 mph was to be the worlds fastest production car.
The Diablo entered production by mid 1990 and evolved through a number of different models including the VT (all wheel drive), Roadster, SE30, SV and the 6.0 being the final iteration of the eleven year production run.
Lamborghini introduced the successor the Diablos successor, the Murcielago, at the 2001 Frankfurt Motorshow,. In true Lamborghini tradition it was named after a Spanish fighting bull. The Murcielago was the first new model designed and built under Audi ownership and was available initially as a coupe and later a roadster. In total 3,983 Murcielagos were produced between 2001 and 2010, of which 3,084 coupes and 899 roadsters.

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale a factory right hand drive, matching numbers 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 Litre 2+2 automatic.
The Heritage Certificate on file confirms this particular example was delivered new in the UK through City Motor Depot. The car was manufactured on 23rd March 1967 and dispatched on 10th April 1967. The Heritage Certificate also confirms today this car still retains its original matching numbers engine (both cylinder head and block). The car was delivered in dark blue with a light blue interior. The car was first registered with the registration JUM399 which was issued in Leeds, UK.
The early history of this car is not known and it is not known exactly when it was imported into Australia, however, it was prior to 1989. The earliest known history of the car in Australia is from when it was owned by a gentleman who lived in Point Vernon, Queensland. It is understood he was a Jaguar enthusiast and very long term owner of the car. In his ownership the engine was completely rebuilt by Andersens Engine Reconditioning in Pialba, Queensland in 2005. There is an invoice on file for the work done. It is understood the car was restored in his ownership, though it is not known if that included the colour change to its current colour scheme. He passed away and the car was sold in 2008. The next owner of this car was another Jaguar enthusiast who lived nearby in Hervey Bay, Queensland. The E-Type joined a collection of Jaguars including an XK150, MkII and more. He used the car sporadically before selling it to the current owner in 2020.
Today this Jaguar E-Type series 1 4.2 2+2 presents well. In our opinion the Series 1 is definitely the most attractive looking E-Type of the series. When you walk up to this particular example the first impressions are good. This car has a real presence about it. The bright red paintwork, the black interior, the chrome work, the wire wheels . . . it is a lovely combination!
The paint is in very good condition with a deep gloss and a strong depth of colour. Whilst this is not a concours car, it will certainly make an impression at any cars and coffee or club event. The chrome work on the car is also still in a good condition though if you look closely there is some slight pitting evident on the window surrounds and the door handles. All the glass is good with only a few stone chips evident on the front windscreen. The headlight covers, which can easily get damaged are in good condition. This particular example is fitted with a Webasto roof which is in good condition and it has not been affected by the harsh Queensland sun. All the lights and lenses are in good condition with no cracks evident.
The car is fitted with chrome wire wheels which are in excellent condition, including the spinners. The wheels are shod with Maxxis MA-P3 tyres, size 205/70/R15. These tyres are date stamped 3420 and 4020 (week 34 and week 40, 2020). They are in excellent condition.
Open the door and you are welcomed by a well presented interior. The seats are all in good condition with no cracks or tears in the leather. They are soft like your favourite lounge chair, but they still provide ample support. The rear seats appear to have hardly been used if used at all. The dash, door cards, centre tunnel and boot area also present similarly well. The instruments are all in good condition and appear to be in good working order. Unfortunately, the cigarette lighter is missing.
We make ourselves comfortable behind the beautiful timber steering wheel, which is like new, and get ready to take this E-Type our for a short test drive. Like most other E-Types this one requires full choke to start it from cold. We turn the ignition on, activate the choke, give the full pump a few seconds to pump some fuel into the SU carburettors and then we press the start button. The car starts easily, even from cold and the engine sounds good, really good! The engine doesnt need a lot of time to warm up to the point where you can turn the choke off. Then it is time to go! Move the delicate gear lever into Drive (D) and you are away.
We have to admit we were pleasantly surprised by how well this car drives and in fact how easy it is to drive. Some of the E-Types fitted with the Borg Warner automatic gearbox can be a little clunky . . . but not this car, it is an absolute delight to drive. The engine has a fabulous exhaust note, it feels strong and is incredibly responsive on the throttle. The gearbox works well and the gear changes are smooth up and down the box. The car feels solid on the road and handles well. Importantly, all the vital signs are good. The oil pressure gauge and water temperature gauge showed very healthy numbers on our test drive.
Out on the open road this E-Type just goes about its business. It is a great cruiser and with the practicality offered by the 2+2 configuration would be the perfect car to take to golf or any other weekend activity requiring some boot space.
The current owner has enjoyed this E-Type where it has been his preferred car of choice for Friday morning golf and the occasional Sunday drive. He has travelled around 1,700 miles in his three plus years of ownership. Following a recent health scare, he has had a subtle change of direction with his car collection and as a result this 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 Litre 2+2 automatic is now reluctantly offered for sale.
Accompanying the car is a recent history file, Heritage Certificate, owners manual, spare wheel and a copper mallet.

Background:
The Swallow Sidecar Company was founded in 1922 by William Lyons and William Walmsley. In 1934 Lyons formed SS Cars Limited to effectively take over the operation from Walmsley. The SS brand was quite successful, though their cars had a reputation for having more show than go. The Jaguar name first appeared as a model name on an SS 2½ Litre Sports Saloon introduced in 1936. For political reasons, Lyons changed the name of his company to Jaguar Cars in 1945.
The SS100 built between 1936 and 1941 is today regarded as one of the great pre-war sports cars, however, it was the launch of the legendary Jaguar XK120 at the London Motor Show in 1948 that really put Jaguar on the map. The car caused a sensation, which persuaded Jaguar founder and design boss William Lyons to put it into production. The XK120 morphed into the XK140 and ultimately the XK150 and in total, just over 30,000 cars were built over 15 years of production.
In 1961, at the Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar introduced the E-Type, which like the XK120 all those years ago, took the motoring world by storm. The body styling was simply gorgeous and technologically the E-Type was an engineering masterpiece and it set new standards in all areas.
Whilst automotive styling is somewhat subjective, the E-Type is often ranked atop lists of the most beautiful cars and in fact it has been described by Enzo Ferrari as the most beautiful car ever made. And its not just about the looks as the E-Type is often at the top of other lists such as the best sports car ever built or the most significant cars. It is truly a motoring icon.
As a testament to the success of the E-Type, production evolved through three series from 1961 until 1974 during which time circa 70,000 cars were built.

1967 JAGUAR E-TYPE Series 1 2+2

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale a 1963 Triumph TR4.
The Heritage Certificate on file confirms this Australian delivered, factory right hand drive example was built on the 24th October 1963 and left the factory with Signal Red paint and a red interior. The car was delivered with the following options: 590 Rayon tubeless tyres, black hard top, windscreen washers and overdrive.
The early history of this car is not known. It is understood the car was purchased by the prior to previous owner in a disassembled state in July 2002. He was an old school British motor mechanic who subsequently restored the car. Unfortunately, he passed away sometime after that and the car was sold to the previous owner in May 2016. At that time the odometer read 2,847 miles, which is understood to have been the mileage since the car was restored. When he acquired the car he took it to highly respected Triumph specialist Greg Tunstall Mechanical in Brisbane a check over and some minor repairs. A compression test was done and the compression reading was an even 175 psi over all 4 cylinders. He has enjoyed the car throughout his 5 years of ownership and had the car regularly serviced by marque specialists. In his ownership, amongst a few other things, the speedo & tacho were repaired and a new radiator was installed. In July 2021 both rear wheel brake cylinders and worn steering rack boots werereplaced and in January 2022 a new brake booster was fitted.
This car is well known to Oldtimer Australia, having been sold by us to the current owner in January 2022. At that time the odometer read 8,224 miles. In his ownership he has used and enjoyed the car, travelling some 1,500 miles. He has continued to maintain the car and has had the clutch master & slave cylinder and the starter motor overhauled, the suspension bushes replaced and new ball joints installed. He also discovered a small crack in the fuel tank (where the fuel pipe joins the tank) which he had repaired.
Today the odometer reads 9,706 miles.
This Triumph TR4 is a beautifully presented car that runs and drives every bit as good as it looks. Being an older restoration, it is not in concours condition, which makes it the perfect car to take to cars and coffee, a club event or just out for a nice Sunday morning drive. Everyone would comment . . . what a lovely TR4!. The red paintwork is still in very good condition and it has a strong depth of colour with a deep gloss finish. There is some very light wear and minor defects evident consistent with its age. All the external trim, including the lights, lenses and chrome (particularly the grill, bumpers and badges) are is in very good condition. The panel gaps are generally very good. The aftermarket Minilite style 15 wheels are like new and suit the car perfectly. The wheels are fitted with Kumho Solus KH17 tyres all around which are date stamped 0512 (week 5, 2012). Whilst they are still in a good condition it is probably time to replace them based on age. This TR4 has a soft top and tonneaucover, both are black and in very good condition with no rips or tears.
The black upholstery has been trimmed with white piping, which is a perfect combination with the red paintwork. This is complemented beautifully by the timber dashboard and Motolita style steering wheel. The upholstery is in excellent condition and the seats are firm and supportive. The black carpets are also in very good condition with minimal wear. All the instruments are in very good condition and in working order. The car is also fitted with seat belts.
The engine bay is clean and very well presented. The car retains its ID plate and body number tag, which look to be original and correct. The Heritage Certificate confirms that the chassis, body and engine numbers all match. The boot is also very neat, clean and tidy.
This car looks the goods, but whats it like to drive? You slide in behind the steering wheel, get comfortable and fire up the 2,138cc 4 cylinder engine. From cold the car needs full choke to start. The exhaust note is raspy and the little engine just wants to rev! It only gets better from there once the engine warms up. First impressions are extremely positive and one can quickly confirm that this TR4 drives every bit as good as looks! It is tight on the road for an early 1960s open top British sports car. The engine feels strong and the car pulls well through the rev range. The gear changes are smooth and for those longer drives the car is equipped with the desirable overdrive. The steering is direct, the car handles well and the brakes pull the car up efficiently.
The car is accompanied by an owners manual, service book, parts catalogue, service receipts going back to 2016 other miscellaneous documentation, tonneau cover and a spare wheel
The Michelotti designed TR4 is one of the best looking of the TR series Triumphs and we think offers great value for money. Dont miss this opportunity to own a fabulous example of the quintessential British sports car.

Background:
In 1885 Siegfried Bettmann, a German living in London, founded S. Bettmann & Co and started importing bicycles from Europe. Initially, he was selling them under his own trade name, however, in 1886 the name changed to Triumph. In 1897 the company was renamed as the Triumph Cycle Co Ltd and in 1902 the company started producing motor cycles at their factory in Coventry. Business was booming, thanks to big orders from the British Army which needed motor cycles during the First World War and by 1918 Triumph had become Britains largest manufacturer of motor cycles.
In 1921 Bettmann acquired the assets of the defunct Dawson Car Company and started producing cars. The first car to wear the Triumph name was the Triumph 10/20. This car and its immediate successors were only produced in small numbers, however, that all changed with the introduction of the Triumph Super 7 in 1927. This car was a success and it was sold in large numbers through until 1934.
In 1930 the name of the company was officially changed to the Triumph Motor Company. Times were tough and Triumph was struggling to compete with larger car companies. The company started having financial problems and in 1936 the bicycle and motorcycle business were sold to Jack Sangster of Arial. In 1939 the Triumph Motor Company went into receivership and the factory, equipment and goodwill were offered for sale. They were sold, but the Second World War stopped production and the Triumph factory was completely destroyed by bombing in 1940.
After the Second World War, what was left of the Triumph Motor Company and the trade name were purchased by the Standard Motor Company. In 1946 the first new Triumph, the 1800 Roadster, was released to directly compete with Jaguar. In 1950 the company decided to use the Triumph name for all sports models and the Standard name for saloon cars. History now says that this was a strategically brilliant move as it signalled the birth of the Triumph TR series cars.
The TR series Triumphs stand as iconic British sports cars that are well known and loved by enthusiasts all over the world. It started back in 1952 when the Triumph 20TS, a prototype sports car which later became known as the TR1, was shown at the London Motor Show. Reactions were mixed, however, Triumph thought they were on to a good thing and the prototype evolved into the TR2 that was subsequently shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 1953. Triumph built over 8,500 of these 1991cc 4 cylinder sports cars from 1953 1955 and as they say the rest was history. The model evolved into the TR3 (produced from 1955 1962), the TR4 (built from 1961 1965), the TR4A (built from 1965 1967), the TR5 (built from 1967 1968) and ultimately the TR6 (1969 1976). Subsequent TR models were interesting cars, but it is fair to say the evolution of the TR2 finished at the TR6.
Triumph built 40,253 TR4s during its 5 year production run, the majority of which were left hand drive and sold into the United States.
An Australian delivered, factory right hand drive example is relatively rare.

1963 TRIUMPH TR4

Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer for sale this fantastic 1983 Aston Martin V8 Oscar India.
The Heritage certificate on file confirms this car was built on the 7th September 1983 and it left the factory on 11th October 1983. The car was originally delivered in storm red (paint code 9017) with a fawn pipe burgundy interior (trim code VM.3234/DV6171), a colour scheme the car still carries today. The car retains its original matching numbers engine.
The Heritage Certificate also states this car was delivered with Weber carburettors, Avon tyres, beige with burgundy edged carpet, beige leather headliner and a miles per hour speedometer.
This car is a highly desirable later model Oscar India with the V580 Series engine and BBS wheels. It also has the blanked out radiator grill that was standard on the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Like the majority of the Aston Martin V8s built, this car is equipped with a Chrysler Torqueflite three speed automatic transmission.
The documentation on file confirms that this Aston Martin was delivered through Victor Wilson Limited in Edinburgh, Scotland to its first owner, Mr M Carney from Glasgow, Scotland. It was first registered as MAT 78.
Around 1989 the car was sold to Mr M Blackall, an Englishman temporary living and working in Belgium as the Area Director of Operations for a major hotel group. At that time the car was registered as A946FSF. The car spent the next two years in Belgium before the owner moved back to the UK and took the car with him. In 1993 he upgraded to an Aston Martin V8 Volante and this car was sold to Mr M Walker from Edinburgh in June 1994. In September 1996 the car was advertised for sale by the Murray Motor Company in Edinburgh and sold to Mr R Forrester from Cairneyhill, a small village just north of Edinburgh. In 2000 the Murray Motor Company advertised the car for sale again and subsequently sold it to Mr Keenan from Apperley, Gloucestershire, UK. The car was registered with the registration A4 SFK. These UK plates are still fitted on the car.
The current owner, who has an extensive and eclectic collection of cars, acquired this Aston Martin in the UK in mid 2006 and subsequently imported it into Australia. There is an Import Approval on file dated 31st July 2006.
Shortly after arriving into Australia the car was repainted in its original colour of storm red. The car has not been driven any distance since arriving in Australia. It has essentially been in static storage for some fifteen years, though from time to time it was started and driven a short distance. It was last started and driven about five years ago prior to arriving to us.
Since arriving at Oldtimer Australia the car has been recommissioned by classic car specialist Steve Ward from SJ Classics and it runs and drives well. It may require some further fettling to be a reliable driver, but the car has done everything as expected when we have had it out on the open. From the first turn of the key when awoken from its hibernation, the big V8 engine burst to life and it sounds fantastic. Not surprisingly the car seems to get better and better the more it has been driven. The oil pressure is good and engine has loads of power on tap. The gear changes are smooth up and down the box and the car handles, steers and stops as one would expect.
Today the odometer reads 69,688 miles, which based on the information on file, is genuine.
Even though the car carries what is now considered an older repaint, the paint still presents very well. As a result of the car not being driven since it was repainted, the paint has never been exposed to the harsh Australian sun. It retains a deep gloss and a strong depth of colour. There are only two small defects in the paint. There are two very small chips on the boot lid and there is also a small scrape on the edge of the drivers door. Subsequent to our photo shoot, these defects have been touched up using original touch up paint supplied with the car.
All the glass, which looks to be original, and external trim is in very good condition. The same can be said for the bumpers and the other bright work on the car. It is all in very good to excellent condition.
The BBS wheels, which are a real feature on these later Aston Martin V8s present like new with no curb rash. They are shod with Avon Turbosteel 70 tyres, size 235/70/15. The thread on the tyres still present like new, however they are date stamped 4400 (week 44, 2000), and should really be replaced on age.
Open the door and you feel like you are stepping back in time. The interior has been beautifully preserved and is in beautiful condition. It is also very English! The fawn leather seats are in excellent condition with no cracks or tears in the leather. They are comfortable and still provide plenty of support. The rear seats appear to have hardly been used. All the carpets are in excellent condition. The dashboard presents like new. The timber veneer inserts are in excellent condition as is all the leather. Even the top of the dash is still in excellent condition. The instruments are all clean and present well. There is a row of push switches on the centre console and you often see these with faded text. Not in this car. The text is as clear as it was on the day the car left the factory.
In the boot everything is clean and tidy and there is an original spare wheel present.
Open the bonnet and you are presented with a magnificent looking V8 engine. It is hard to miss the Aston Martin Lagonda text on the valve covers and of course there is the plate with the name of the person who assembled the engine. The engine in this car was built by Fred Walters. All very Aston Martin! Everything presents as one would expect. The engine is bay is neat, clean and tidy.
The underside of this car presents well. There is light surface corrosion on some of the components, however, this is not a typical English car underneath. The overall presentation is consistent with a 41 year old car that has been well cared for.
Accompanying this car is a comprehensive history file dating back to new, which includes the original service book.
This car has an incredible presence and it presents fabulously in the striking colour of storm red.

Whilst Aston Martin produced some wonderful cars in their early years business, was always a struggle and the company was severely disrupted during both World War I and II. The company went bankrupt on more than one occasion and has endured many different owners throughout its history.
David Brown acquired Aston Martin in February 1947 and the first car produced during his ownership was the Aston Martin 2 Litre Sports, later known as the DB1, which was built in extremely limited numbers from 1948 to 1950. This was succeeded by the Aston Martin DB2 in 1950, which featured a new double overhead cam straight six engine of 2.6 litre (2580 cc) capacity, and was a car that really put post war Aston Martin on the map. The David Brown era was arguably Aston Martins finest with the company winning LeMans in 1959 and the sixties producing the legendary DB4, DB5 and DB6 models.
The first of the Newport Pagnell designed cars, the DBS, was introduced in 1967. The DBS was initially powered by Aston Martins tried and true 6 cylinder engine as the companys new V8 engine was not ready.
From September 1967 through until May 1972 Aston Martin produced 829 DBS chassis. One of these was used in a crash test and 26 of these were later fitted with a V8 engine which leaves a total of 802 six cylinder Aston Martin DBS. Of these 802 cars, 621 were right hand drive and 181 left hand drive. The DBS was available with a five speed ZF manual gearbox or an automatic gearbox or. Interestingly, 317 of the right hand drive cars were fitted with the five speed manual gearbox. It is understood that Aston Martin only built circa 70 right hand drive examples equipped with the Vantage engine.
In September 1969 the DBS was superseded by the DBS V8, powered by the all new 5.3 litre V8 engine which was finally ready for production. The DBS V8 remained in production through until April 1972 and circa 400 cars were built. It was then renamed and became the Aston Martin V8, which became a great success for the marque. The Aston Martin V8 was produced for 17 years, with production finally coming to an end in 1989. Just over 2,000 cars were built, plus the Volantes and Vantages.
In October 1978 Aston Martin introduced the Aston Martin V8 Series 4, otherwise known as the Oscar India (Oscar India = October Introduction, from the phonetic alphabet). The car now sporting burr walnut trim, a blanked off bonnet scoop and a revised boot lid and rear wings to create a sculpted spoiler was visually very similar to the Vantage. The car remained in production through until 1985 and only 352 examples were produced.
